To the anon who asked me about my Reaper!Bones headcanons:
John Grimm is quite good with kids, thank you very much. As long as kids are not in his workplace for a tour.
Guess who rewatched the proper first four episodes of Almost Human? Yep, felt like it. I miss this show.
Guess who is taking note of characters and certain plot points to explore in ARITS?? Yeeeeeeep that was kind of the reason I decided to watch it.
I thought I was done with my outline, but I guess I got stuff to add to it yaaaay
What are some headcanons you have about Reaper!Bones? :)
Now this is a large can of worms, Nonnie, and you know that hah
Jocelyn happened. Joanna happened, by extension, but she’s not a biological daughter of his. He met them sometime in the… 22nd century? Nothing is set in stone just yet, but I am doing this.
He was Jo’s doctor
The three of them got along much better than Joss and Joanna did with the ex-husband/father, but
He was sort of drafted by Section 31 in 2227 (the year Leonard McCoy was born as an identity for him), no way they’d let him walk away from them
In 2255, after almost 30 years just in S31, he decided to join Starfleet
No, he didn’t like Jim, for plenty of reasons, but the kid wouldn’t leave him alone
Reaps had his own single dorm, courtesy of S31 since they couldn’t talk him out of this idea
But Jim and his roommate, Finnegan, fought a lot. Physically, even. And the latest one started when Jim instinctively (and maybe drunkenly) started on “Bones” defense after Finnegan made some unfortunate comment about him (not that he cared, honestly, the guy is 230 something years old at this point)
Bones decided then that hey, maybe this kid ain’t so bad, but that was just really dumb and had Finnegan change rooms with him, so he and Jim were roommates and he could stop that idiot from getting himself killed before even leaving the Academy
His fear/hatred of space, flying and transporter tech is definitely warranted, but in those three years Jim never learned what caused them
He somewhat knew of Admiral Marcus’ plans. He also knew Carol beforehand.
(Smuggling one Jim Kirk turned out to be easy enough, bringing aboard someone who can cover their tracks better couldn’t be so bad either)
He knew of Khan, Khan knew of him, and Reaps is just glad he kept his mouth shut
He may have played a part on why Khan ultimately decided to guide Jim through the Vengence
Oh, Samantha is actually around (this one made way into many things I’ve written of Reaper!Bones already, no real spoiler here anymore XD)
They are non-identical twins and she took one hell of a gamble by taking C24 herself
She laid low much better than John, and they met in the Academy.
She, in general, has kept it together better than John
WELL, I think this is a good moment to stop. I have many, many Doom (game) related HCs too, but that’d properly qualify as spoilers for my fic so I’m not including any of them :D
Hope you have fun with these, Nonnie XD
Now that chapter 2 is properly rewritten (not reviewed yet), I’m editing the other chapters... Not sure if they’ll change as much as chapter 2 did - that thing got honest to goodness four times longer than the original chapter - but they’ll all be better regardless.
I had way too much fun writing this version of chapter 2, but I’ll only update the work in AO3 when all 4 chapters are ready, so... Be patient.
Also, chapter 5 is gonna come sometime this second semester, I swear >.>
Somebody save me from this monster
Lord, as I just told @cuddlememerrick, and this is not something I can keep to myself, I'm pouring so much into ARITS. So much. There is just so much of my time and energy going into this fanfic. It’s a learning experience and I love it as the person writing it and as the person who would want to read something like this. Plot-driven-ish stuff (It’ll make sense eventually, I hope.)
I’m the type of writer that often thinks “what am I trying to accomplish with this” and for once, a fanfic is receiving this treatment and I’m not sure what that says about me. That I’m giving the “literature” thinking to a fic. That it has a purpose in my mind beyond the entertainment value all stories have.
Because they all do have entertainment value and it is perfectly okay to stay at that. But here I am. Giving A Reaper In The Stars so much more than what I initially thought I would. The 209 years between Doom and Star Trek, I’m covering most of them. And surprisingly, it doesn’t feel like it’s that much time. It feels natural and a compelling thing to write about.
In the fic, I feel like there’s a bit of an exaggerated thing that happens to everyone at some point. I hadn’t quiiite realized I was going down this route but now that I know, I want to keep at it. It’ll be good, I hope.
I’m not even making sense, I feel, and I’m running my mouth here, but damn, I had to get this out there. I had a shitty day for the most part and working on this fic is improving my mood a little.
