Lost Legacy By The Shoreline
As I was putting on my green jumpsuit, after a restless night... I decided to have a quick breakfast and a walk near the ocean to wake myself up. I didn’t need my comet shard glove for this one, considering that I’m already a bonafide Lucario. I walked along the road that’s at least a few feet from the cliff-side with the ocean to my right, it was tranquil and perfect for my refreshing morning. After a good five minutes, I saw someone unexpected a few yards ahead of me. A kirlia with her back towards me, but I knew this aura: It was Iris and she was carrying a bouquet of flowers. “Strange, I wonder why she’s here?” I asked myself before I decided to catch up with her and called out her name. “Iris! Wait up!” I yelled as I ran, She looked behind her and was surprised to see an unfamiliar Lucario running up to her. “Who are you? Wait… this presence…” She said before she closed her eyes and I felt the air hum for a few seconds before she opened them again before looking at me with a smirk. “Saisei, you dork. At least let me know when you were going to evolve!” She told me before firing a beam from her eyes which hit me square in the gut that made me double over. “Agh!! Sorry, it’s just that… something big came up. Something I couldn't ignore.” Iris’s head tilted to the side in confusement… before she closed her eyes, letting me know that she’s entering my mind again. When she opened them again, she looked at me with concern. “So… Akira gave you that letter for a reason, eh?” She asked as I stood up and brushed myself off.
“Sounds like I can’t hide anything from you after all, huh?” I asked before we both chuckled and we both started to walk and chat at the same time. After finishing telling her about the recording that Umbra gave me, we came across a stairway that led from the top of the cliff to a secluded beach at the bottom. “Here it is…” She muttered before she went down the stairs and I followed her. I didn’t realize it at first, but I never felt so much sadness from her. The stairway however didn’t exactly lead to the sandy part of the beach, We had to be careful not to slip on the water drenched rocks that were between the stairs and the sand. It was a good thing I learned bone rush and using it as a walking stick to help me navigate over the boulders, otherwise I would be slipping and falling on the rocks left and right here! I saw that Iris was extremely careful not to drop the flowers into the ocean which piqued my interest as she and I touched the sand on the beach. “Hey, Iris? You never told me who the flowers were for.” I asked as I pointed at them, She looked at them before sighing, “I suppose I can't hide it anymore… follow me.” She told me and she walked along the shoreline, We walked for a few minutes of silence before she turned her head right towards the cliff-side. There was a circular boulder that’s the size of a truck and it seemed to be blocking something, maybe a hole in the cliff itself? “Since you’re with me, could you do me a favor and move the boulder, but not destroy it? Consider it payback for evolving before me.” Iris told me and I groaned. “Figures you’d punish me in a certain way…” I said as Iris giggled softly before I approached the boulder rolled it like a wheel with my new found strength.
With the boulder removed, I saw a cave entrance that’s big enough for a humanoid pokemon like me to enter. Iris went in first and I followed after her. The cave’s passageway had many twists and turns, It took at least five minutes before Iris and I entered a chamber which was as big as a living room. On the far side, was a glass container that housed three objects: a family photo, a dried up bouquet of flowers and a bright blue metal fighting-staff that’s as long as my bone rush attack. It also came with spear tips on both ends of the staff, which I bet could also be used as a javelin and a spear. As I stood by the entrance to the chamber, Iris slowly approached the glass container and took out a key, which she used to unlock the glass door. That’s when I realized what was going on: “Today… is an anniversary, isn’t it?” I asked as she took out the dried up flowers and put in the new ones. “Yeah… today’s the day where both my parents disappeared. I wanted to believe that they were alive, but two years back… someone informed my aunt and uncle that they found the remains of my dead parents... in another dimension.”
I looked at her with shock before I cautiously approached her, knelt down and put a hand on her head, trying to comfort her. That’s when I got a good look at the photo: It was a Gardevoir carrying Iris when she was no more than a baby ralts and with his arm around the gardevoirs shoulders was a familiar lucario in armor. I immediately broke a sweat after seeing this photo.‘...are they?’ I thought to myself before asking Iris the question to confirm my suspicion: “What are their names? Your parents.” I asked, trying to keep a calm voice. Iris took a few seconds before answering. “I never learned my father’s name… but, Erika was the name of my mother.”
After hearing the truth from Iris, all sorts of questions rattled in my head. However, two questions stood out among the cluster: “If Iris met her father now... or at least what he’s become, what would her reaction be? And what would he say to me if he learned that her daughter was my friend?” It took me a while to calm down as Iris was praying, paying her respects to her lost parents. I stood up and decided to change the subject as my eyes laid on the fighting-staff that’s inside the glass cabinet. “So… that staff, Who does it belong to?” I asked the moment Iris opened her eyes and finished praying. “That? That’s mom’s prized treasure. My uncle said that when I’m older, I’ll be able to use this weapon properly… both to attack those that cause pain and suffering while defending the helpless, that's what he told me anyway.” Iris said before looking at me with uncertainty.
“Speaking of which, you never told me about who or what you and this ‘Umbra’ guy are up against.” “Oh… that. well... Can you keep it a secret from Akira and my family? Don’t want to get them involved.” I told her while scratching the back of my head. Iris thought about it for a minute before nodding and I told her about the Xurkitree that me and Umbra were going to subdue as well as what it did to electric pokemon. “So… in order to keep the ship and it’s passengers safe, you and Umbra have to subdue or take out this Xurkitree? Damn… wish I could help, but I bet I’ll get in the way as I am now.” She said, before her eyes glowed and the spear-headed staff slowly floated out of the glass container and it stopped horizontally in the air between me and my friend. “With this, however… it might tip the balance in your favor.” I was not expecting this… it wasn’t even my birthday yet, for crying out loud! “You want me to…!? I...I can’t accept this! It was your mother’s…” I frantically told her while waving my arms and Iris shook her head. “I… honestly don’t even know why I’m doing this as well… but something deep down is telling me: ‘Help others however I can.’ So, I will.” She said and the staff floated upward until it was level with my chest.
‘I don’t know whether to accept this or not, But still...’ I thought to myself as I stared at the staff that's still floating patiently, waiting for me to take it. ‘She’s right. I do need all the help I could get.’ I closed my eyes and sighed deeply, when I opened them again I gave Iris a calm smile. “Alright… if this is what you want, I’ll do it. But… expect me to come back with a few dents on this thing, OK?” I told her as I stretched out my right arm and I grabbed the staff right in the middle. Iris beamed happily and the glow of her eyes faded, She closed the glass container, locked it and looked at me with a nice smile. “Heh, well I better hope you have the money to cover for it’s damages. I think my uncle said that it was… uh, oh yeah! About fifty bucks! Well, later!!” She told me before she ran out of the cave with the dried flowers in hand, leaving me flustered and panicking. “WHAAAA?! 50$?! I don’t have that kind of money! Get back here!!” I yelled and I started to go after her, but stopped and looked back at the glass case… I turned until my body was facing the glass container and I gently put the staff down horizontally at my feet before I sat on my knees and put my hands together. “Don’t worry, Miss Erika. I’ll keep your daughter safe in you and your husband's place, I promise. For now, I’m borrowing your staff. I’ll give it back to you one day…. when this world is truly safe.” After paying my respects to Iris’s mother I got back on my feet and I picked up the staff. I took one last look at the photo of Alexander, Erika and iris together and it made me realize something: Iris wanted to have parents of her own… and they sacrificed their lives so we could still have the sun and moon’s rays bathing us with their warm light. Maybe when this is all over and there’s still time… I’ll introduce her to Umbra’s spiritual partner, if he’s ready to face his daughter of course. I smiled weakly before I turned around and started to head my way back to the beach’s shoreline.
It took at least five minutes to finally leave that narrow cave, without damaging the staff on my way out. The waves are getting more restless as they crashed against the cliff-side to my right and the sun’s rays are showing just above the cliff’s edge above me. After moving the boulder back to cover the entrance, I closed my eyes to try to pick up Iris’s aura, but unfortunately she’s out of range. Meaning she left for home, which is fine considering that I should be heading home too. I have a lot to explain to my family about my recent… change once I’m back.
‘Vacation’ Plans
The two of us chatted for a good forty-five minutes, the topic changed from our everyday lifestyle to normal guy talk. Eventually the topic turned to what had recently occurred: “Sorry for the… scene I made outside… I got a bit carried away.” He said with a calm smile. I chuckled, this guy… really is something. “Uh… you totally knocked the big guy on his ass…” I said and my new acquaintance laughed, just like I thought he would. “Aw, come on! it was legitimate self-defense! Besides…” He said before his expression darkened and I felt a murderous intent in the air. “I can't risk getting a few burns before going after this fiend.” That’s right… in the recording from the letter Akira gave me, he did mention something about a ‘target’. I took a deep breath before asking my question: “Who are you after? A Robber? A Killer? “ Umbra shook his head. “He’s a bit of both, and he’s no ordinary criminal: He’s an ultra beast, A Xurkitree to be precise.” That caught me off guard, out of every pokemon I've fought so far… I never fought an Ultra beast before. Ultra beasts… they hail from a world that’s different from our own.
Four years ago, a dimensional gateway opened in Hawaii and it still remains open to this day. That single gateway is the only way in or out of Ultra Space other than several other gateways that sometimes appear across Hawaii's islands remain open for several months before they close. As for the Ultra beasts themselves, I’ve heard that two organizations were created to keep the peace between Ultra Space and our world. The first is called UB Sanction, they’re like a protection agency and they have taught Ultra Beasts that hail from another dimension or born in this one. It took ten years for black-skined humans to be recognized as equal people on earth, and yet... It took almost half that long for ultra beasts to adjust to our world and its rules, some of those ultra beasts went back to their homeworld to invite others to this one. As for the ultra beasts that chose to cross the line, the “Ultra Hunters'' were founded by a group of skilled veterans from past and recent wars. Their duty is either imprison the Ultra Beasts or kill them if they continue to commit crimes that puts other innocent pokemon in the crossfire. Which reminds me: Umbra did show those two cops something, was that...?
“Hey, you’re not one of ‘them’... are you?” I asked eagerly. Umbras' expression brightened a bit and he took out his wallet and showed me what was inside. “If you’re thinking that i’m an Ultra Hunter, then you guessed right.” He said proudly as I saw his Ultra Hunter ID card. I was shocked to know that a Ultra hunter reached out to me, let alone claiming that he’s going to be my protector. “So… what did this Xurkitree do to get a bounty on his head?” I asked as Umbra put his wallet away. “This one came out of a different gateway a few days ago and because of his strange language, he’s new to this world… but it doesn’t mean that he’s not quick to adapt, read that article that was in the letter and you’ll know what he’s done.” He said before i nodded and started to read the newspaper fragment, when i was done… I was on the verge of throwing up. Here’s what the topic of conversation was: ‘Electric type pokemon are having their power drained by an unknown entity while traveling by sea near the Hawiian islands. Some can’t use their electric powers for a couple days straight while the worst-case scenario is that so much electricity is absorbed from their bodies that they’re reduced to skin and bones…’
It took a glass of water and some time for me to swallow this pill. when I finally found my voice, I asked: “...Why is he doing this?” “That’s the confusing part, since he recently came from ultra-space and no one knows what he’s talking about, it’s hard to say what his true motive is. So…” Umbra then pulled out some kind of earpiece and showed it to me. “This device was invented for situations like this, it allows the wearer to translate the native language that ultra beasts use before they came to our world and learned our languages.” he told me as he put it away. I looked at the article one last time before asking one more question: “He’s only been here for a couple days and already he’s committing crimes? Is... something going on in his dimension?” Umbra shrugged before looking out the window at the Vendetta. “Who knows… but there IS a hint of desperation in his actions, so maybe he’s trying to save his world at the expense of ours....” The two of us sat together in silence before umbra looked at his watch on his right arm and said: “Right… I’ve already cleared things with the captain of the Vendetta and he knows that we’ll be protecting his ship as it heads towards Port Hawai’i, but it’ll take at least three days for it to be fully loaded and ready to set sail. So, in the meantime... We’ll have some time to get to know each other, as well as some training to get ready for the big fight.” Umbra then stood up before smiling “Speaking of which, tomorrow we’ll spar with each other and if you turn out to be a good fighter, I’ll have a gift ready for you.” My lucario ears twitched at the sound of that.
“Ho boy… hopefully i’ll learn how to use this new weapon properly.” I said nervously with a grin as Umbra stood up “Yeah, well... you’ll be more than acquainted with it soon enough, I wish we could talk more… But business beckons. See you tomorrow!” He said before he left, leaving me alone in the cafe. At least, I thought I was alone... but I heard my guardian's voice echoing in my head: “Umbra… He’s certainly a strange one.” I almost jumped at the sound of Suisei’s voice, but judging by her concerned tone… “How long were you listening in?” I asked her. “Long enough to understand the situation, but… he’s hiding something and when I tried to enter his mind, I was confronted and rejected by something... much darker. In all my life… I’ve never felt such... vengeful bloodlust.” I shuddered at the word ‘blood-lust’, If what she says is true then… Umbra had someone else with him, someone like suisei: a spirit of some kind. Only this time, this spirit is out for blood, question is… whose blood? I’ll have to find out tomorrow...
