Arkian are known to be a sight some people may consider terrifying. Their bodies are humoniod in the loose sense of the word— as if someone of human proportions had been wrung out and stretched.

Arkian could easily be described as tall, lanky, spindly, and 'sharp around the edges'. Their arms, legs and 'fingers' are elongated in comparison to a human. Fingers end in sharp claws, and are webbed. Feet are of similar nature as well. An Arkian is thin and long in their midsection, but most of their height comes from their long legs.

Every Arkian has a unique pattern of 'veins' that glow beneath their translucent skin. Bioluminescent in nature, said pattern may show up in different colours— between that and the markings, an Arkian can tell at a simple glance who another of their kind is if they'd previously met them.

A sort of webbing protrudes along an Arkian's spine, starting at the base of the neck and flanking either side of the spinal cord— and they have matching 'webbing' that runs down the length of either arm. When in the waters of Arkanis, an Arkian has the ability to morph their body to connect their legs and form a tail for quicker transport— though it's more common to see an Arkian with legs than a tail.

Arkian have a pair of gills that rest just above their hips and under their rib cage. They close up when an Arkian leaves the water— sealing close to the Arkian's skin. Due the the nature of gills, Arkian are not fond of people touching near their hips.

Eekimaruu, or as most people would know him Armitage Hux, is an Arkian with pale skin and markings that glow the same shade of seafoam green as his eyes (the colour an Arkian bleeds). The webbing that adorns his frame is a brilliant red in colour, and it matches the red hair that sprouts on his head. Despite his human mimic measuring up to 6'1", the Arkian's true height is 7'1"— an entire foot taller than the false skin he dons.

Creatures of the Arkanis Seas

Llyel

Llyel (lie el) are creatures best described as eel-like or snake-like... usually found far from shore and deep underwater. They can grow up to five feet long and have semi-translucent skin and markings that pulse a soft glow. Llyel are almost always seen in small groups of two to five until they reach the size of about three feet, which is when they tend to go solo to make keeping themselves well fed easier.

A decent part of the Llyel's diet tends to actually be Arkian younglings— and they utilize a venom that is deadly to Arkians (especially the smaller ones) to easily incapacitate their chosen prey. It's rarer for them to go after adult Arkians because they're both harder to kill and harder to eat.

Like the Arkian, Llyel have a strong connection to the Force— but are usually passively shielding themselves from those also connected to it more often than not. It is what makes them so dangerous to an Arkian that isn't paying attention to their surroundings. Despite the factor an Arkian senses the life-force around them at all times, they wouldn't sense the presence of danger until it was too late.

Eekimaruu, or as most know him— Armitage— had a run in with a young Llyel when he was a teenager and barely starting to explore the seas of Arkanis in newfound 'freedom'. The creature was gravely injured, and despite her small size, all alone. Not knowing the dangers that a Llyel could pose to an Arkian, Armitage felt himself drawn to her (feeling a pull through their shared connection in the Force) and despite not knowing he had the capability to do so, he healed her.

The act was intimate enough the two came out of the experience with a strong but gentle connection in the Force. The Llyel took a liking to the young Arkian and it wasn't unusual to have her show up at Armitage's side whenever he was planet side for the soak he needed.

While many Arkians demonized him for keeping such a dangerous creature in his company, there were plenty who were also in awe. Especially once they heard the story about how such an odd companionship had come to be.

After creating his sleeptank abord the Finalizer, so he no longer is tethered to the seas of Arkanis so tightly, Armitage returns one last time to retrieve his friend.

Having the feeling of their mutual trust close at hand afterwards only made the effort more worth it.

Legend has it that a long, long time ago powerful beings walked the land of Arkanis and swam in her green depths. The ancient natives have depicted the form of two individuals consistently throughout the old civilizations that had been repurposed for settlers that had migrated to the planet.

One being was shown to be brightly coloured— what seems like feathers covering his entire stout frame. Most artworks would refer to the being as 'Skiiva', and showcase him holding fruits native to Arkanis and baring a friendly grin.

His companion, however, was quite the opposite— labeled with the name 'Aariien', the being was covered in pale scales with bright markings painted along her tall, lanky frame. Rare was it that her teeth would be shown, but the sight alone could cause unease— sharp and unmistakenly deadly. Whenever Skiiva is holding fruit, Aariien holds a dead fish to complete the parallel.

Due to the factor that newcomers to Arkanis had no means of which to talk to those who had painted the depictions, they only had their own ideals to draw upon. As such, the true intent behind the pair is often times debated among those who live there.

The most agreed upon concept is that Skiiva and Aariien are Gods— different from each other, and yet perfectly balanced. Skiiva has been repainted by those who call Arkanis home to be the God of the Sky, alongside fortune and life. Aariien, no thanks to her more terrifying nature, has been dubbed the Goddess of the Sea, and often times of death and war.

On rare occasions, one may find artwork featuring more similar to the pair and it's been used as a counter point against the theory of Gods existing— or, in the case of the Fallen Angels, merely led to ideas of more spiritual beings existing.

In reality, Skiiva and Aariien were not Gods; but merely two different species of Arkians that helped forge peace between their kind and advocated for harmony. Without them, the natives of Arkanis would have truly gone extinct as those who occupy the planet these days believe they had.

Where do Arkanis people live? Describe the geography. Is the planet full of large citys, middle of nowhere villages, or somewhere in between? How is the common architecture and what materials are used for building houses and how does that influence the looks of the buildings? Did and how so changed this when the first order settled down on the planet?

Ooooh, this is a fun one!

So the majority of the planet is sea, and what isn't covered in water is (beyond the beaches and cliffsides) forest. Most of the 'towns' built up on Arkanis are nestled up to a beach with good access to the ocean. Arkanis is largely known for its fishing.

There are some pockets of civilization deep in the forest, and oftentimes those on the beach and those in the woods end up trading off goods that the other can't easily get their hands on.

For the most part, buildings are made of stone or other sorts of sturdy material— they have to combat constant rain and high winds when Arkanis is at its utmost worst. Some people may decide to decorate the outside/inside of their homes with wood, but it's always an extra and otherwise useless layer.

Many places on Arkanis are actually repurposed structures from the past...

One of such things was the Arkanis Academy the Empire had.

Things don't really change so much when the Empire was around (trade got disrupted time-to-time, but otherwise the Empire put in STRONG efforts not to be too noticeable). What really brought noticeable change is when the New Republic got involved post 5 ABY...

Arkanis becomes a rich planet under the hold of the New Republic... and as sorts expansion happens. More buildings, in places those 'local' dare not disturb and bigger buildings for the sake of the fish importing that ends up happening. Often times these buildings were made of metals because it was easier than stone.

Arkians; A Deeper Look

Arkians, as a species, don’t have a sex that they’re set with-- meaning they’re capable of changing sex based on necessity. Be it due to a lack of one sex being around, living conditions or the fact that an Arkian is away from their own kind for too long. They are also capable of, if push comes to shove, cloning themselves to help keep their species going.

When it comes to mating, Arkians mate for life-- it’s very rare they’d ever take up another partner, unless tragedy strikes early on in a young couple’s life and the other half can push past the trauma of a severed bond. It’s very rare that when two Arkians are intimate for the first time, they do not form a sort of forcebond with their partner.

The bond is how the pair can keep track of each other over vast distances in the waters of Arkanis, and their strength tends to vary depending on how connected to the force each Arkian is. Their force connection is mostly life-force based, along with telepathy which is usually used for communication while in the water.

Arkanian Proposals 

When it comes to proposals on the planet Arkanis, there’s only one right way to perform them. Any other way is seen as a sign of bad luck if the proposal is accepted-- and as such the locals be sure to follow at least one rule in particular.

Only propose on a sunny day. In the rare cases where the sun peaks out and casts the planet in warmth, it’s said one can find good luck and fortune-- and as such it’d become tradition to wait out the desire to ask your significant other for their hand in marriage until such an occasion happened.

Due to the planet being mostly working class (fishers, bakers, chiefs, engineers--) who are constantly using their hands, Arkanians had taken to proposing with necklaces. The most popular kind of necklace was one featuring one (and, though rare, there are times there’s more) seastone as the main piece.

Seastones are precious gem-like rocks that have been smoothed out due to the waves of their sea, and come in a wide variety of different colours and sizes. Often times, if their significant other already has something with seastones (like a pair of earrings) it’s part of the process to find the perfect match to the already owned seastone.

Bonus; Armitage’s mother had a set of seastone earrings and would constantly give him one of them as a way to keep him calm and help remind him he’s not alone when he’d have nightmares as a kid. When he’d been hauled off Arkanis, he was in possession of one of them. If his significant other ever decides to make the move and ask his mother for her blessing, she will give them the matching pair to complete the set.

What is typical fod on arkanis consideirng its a worldof many yeas? What are the typical brekfasts? The suppers? The sweets and desserts? What are Hux favorite arkanis food or does he not like the local kitchen?

Oh my friend, you opened one hell of a floodgate.

First and foremost, Arkanis is most widely known for it’s fish! Fish and fresh bread make up most meals of the day. Be the fish cooked as a flay, or in a soup... most often times the fish is something freshly caught just that day, if not at worst the day prior. Now sometimes there’s red meats too, brought back by hunters who travel into the forest for days at a time and haul back their catch to sell off, but in Armitage’s particular case he didn’t care much for that the few chances he even got to try it.

Most common back at the Academy Armitage was raised was the soup route-- made of a mix of fish and different spices, which somehow kept the dish from tasting all too similar over the passing of days. Fresh bread was made specifically to pair with the flavours of the soup, and often used to soak up left over broth once the fish and vegetables were finished. His favourite soup in particular was one rarely ever made, and it featured something similar to our universe’s shrimp.

Deserts were often pastries! Usually something with a fruit filling. Armitage loved it when his mother would slip him little tarts with a mix of berries for filling as he settled down by the fire to warm up after spending time out in the rainy weather that was common for Arkanis.

Interesting but ultimately useless headcanons;

Hux hates caf— the smell and flavour of it. When desperate enough he'll find a way to doctor it up to being manageable but usually he'll stick to teas for caffeine if possible.

he Won't Eat Meat, but actually enjoys fish. The fish ties back to his time on Arkanis since fish is the big thing on their planet.

Fish being a big thing = fishing boats and people dedicated to fishing = boredom while not quite fishing = coming up with fun sea shanties

sea shanties started as a fun thing and are said to 'appease' the mythical 'fallen angels' so they leave the ships alone; its believed a shanty or two keeps the angels at bay and the fish here to play.
