Batman Arkham News; A Quick Read
By Devon “The Man of your dreams” James
There is justified speculation on the internet that the next adventure in the Batman videogame franchise is entitled "Batman Arkham World". Of course, there are nay sayers who scratch it off their chalk board already on the basis of "why would they give it away at an award show?". Allow me to show you the evidence so I can allow you to tell me how right I am. This is a clip at the VGA 2011 Award Show. Go to about 19 seconds in.
You see, incontrovertible proof that:
A. People on the internet sure are stupid.
If you must know who I'm coming down on, its Lasercorn from Clever games who is clearly trying his hardest to come off as hip, relevant, and into videogames. Than again, he did wear his Arkham City shirt which he points out immediately during the show as if to say "its okay. I'm one of you. Yup. I love the videogames... with the button pressing and the action. Can I have my check now".
B. There are plans of a third game, and it will be entitled Arkham World.
I mean, c'm on. The Joker, being that he did die in the series and all (and if you didn't know, than why are you reading blogs about Arkham City), discards a script entitled Arkham World which on the back says "Rock Steady Confidential", and gives a cheeky smile to the audience as he says "spoilers". The only way that could have been more clear is if he said straight into the camera "oh by the way, in case you didn't get the reference, the developers are working on a game called Arkham World.... uh, just so you know". If your critical thinking is so stunted that you don't draw any conclusions from that clip, than... than just....pssh... I don't know... you're just dumb.
Anywho, there is some possible hints to support the Arkham World Hypothesis:
1. Batman didn't kill Ra's Al Ghul. If you don't believe me, go back to the place where you dropped his ass after Dr. Strange blows up Wonder Tower. You'll only find his sword just below the "A" that impaled him. While you did stop Hugo Strange, but Ra's Al Ghul is the mastermind with all the resources and superior strength and intellect, not to mention that he had no intention of stopping his plan after Arkham City burned to the ground which brings me to:
2. Dr. Strange's main goal was to spread Arkham City to other parts of the world starting with Star City and Metropolis. He says as much during Batman's elevator ride just before you smack him and his Tyger guards around.
3. Batman was told by Azrael that he will shut Arkham down, but from the ashes, the fires of Arkham will spread. Vague, but I count it.
Lastly, a fan from the internet pointed out that in the Penguin's gladiator pit are puddles that when peered into reveals a sky line with buildings, some of which are not even apart of Arkham or Gotham. Internet fans speculate that this is a preview to the world that Arkham World will introduce. One even said, and I haven't actually found this yet, that there is a plaque that says "Sanity fighting the madness".
My own reason why this is true is because, holy crap, that sounds epic. I mean, just say the name and marvel at how huge it sounds, and it makes sense. Arkham's madness finally spreading beyond its borders to engulf an entire planet in chaos is not just the next logical step for the franchise where every game was an escalation of the infection that plagued Arkham, its what the fans demand. Another valid point is that it sounds so cool and I really really want to play it so bad, it hurts.
