In a continuing story line from the events of Arklight: Operation Nightfall, the elite time-travelling Spear Team of Arklight must once again explore the past in order to save the future from ultimate darkness. The destruction of everything is a very real possibility when the pieces of the Arma Christi weapons are laid out by an ancient journal, and the Spear Team must try to get their hands on a piece to stop them all being collected. To do so, they will have to explore the secrets behind many battlefields of American and world history, all in time to stop the ultimate fight from taking over the world. The winding plot of Arklight: Force Interdiction produces a fascinating narrative that rewrites history as it goes along. J.M. Myrick’s prose is well constructed to deliver these powerful concepts and, although the focus is more towards the overall story than the characters’ journeys, the characters are developed enough for that not to be a problem. I enjoyed the flashes back to other times, and it’s clear that the author has done plenty of work to encapsulate the atmosphere of the past, particularly with reference to war. The inclusion of truly violent moments was stark but appropriate, and really heightened the dangerous reality that the crew and the wider world were facing. In this enticing thriller, which is suitable for readers who don’t mind some explicit language and mid-level violent scenes, we follow on with the team from previous novels Operation Nightfall and Force Interdiction. This time the enemy is clear: the special operative Magnus O’Keefe, whose interference is only the beginning of a time-spanning interdimensional plot that covers over two thousand years of human history. From the dangerous resurfacing of Nazi regimes to the new pieces of a terrifying weapon, the Spear Team must find the truth at the heart of this sinister plot before it’s too late. Having read author J. M. Myrick’s work before, I knew I’d be getting some fantastic action scenes, powerful moments of cataclysmic terror and plenty of run for my money in this new Arklight installment. Whilst Myrick delivers all the guts and glory that one would usually expect to find as the Spear Team and the Alsos Team struggle on, this particular plot was an even bigger success than previous tales. For me, the combination of sinister psychological and genocidal plots from the past really upped the ante on the stakes, making every moment more emotionally charged and terrifying to read about. We also have deeper character development than ever, making the heroes more realistic and relatable as their struggles worsen. Myrick is the third novel in the series where the fight between good and evil comes to a heart-stopping end. The Spear Team is out there trying to find the truth and making sure people are safe from the clutches of evil. They are not fighting blindly anymore, they know who they are fighting and they know how they can defeat him. The only issue is they need to get the Spear of Destiny and that is not easy. If they want to win this fight and save the world from an impending end, they need to stand their ground. This is the battle that could save them all ... or it could end it all. Arklight: Task Force Crusader by J. M. Myrick is a story that needs to be read by anyone who is a fan of action and thriller genres. All the characters are very well-developed, but Ian and John stood out to me the most. They lead the story in their own way and they do the best they can. The author has done a great job of creating a universe that is not only believable but is actually very real. The flow is great, the story progresses wonderfully and you don’t get a moment to put the book down.
