PROTO-DEATH METAL VOCALS IN AMERICAN HARDCORE -- CLASS OF '83.
PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on Arlington, Virginia "outsider" hardcore punk band UNITED MUTATION, established 1980 as DARK SELF IMAGE, and now infamous among hardcore circles for having some of the grimmest, most grotesque vocals of their day.
YOU BREED LIKE RATS: "How did Mike Brown come up with such a disgusting, and amazing, voice (years before many death metal and hardcore bands would adopt similar styles)?"
JAY FOX (U.M. bassist): "Mike Brown's voice… No effort was made, that's the way it came out. He eid work on it after the fact but it was never planned as a vocal style. We have been touted as being innovators in the style as well as criticized by people who seem to think we were bandwagon jumpers, but the truth is, that was Mike's voice. What you hear is what it was."

so i had some al fresco dining at hawkers - some curry, baos, soup dumpling (not shown), and roti. fun street food.
So, Arlington, VA needs a new logo because their old one was a stylized design of Arlington House, which obviously has connotations of slavery and the Confederacy, so they are holding a contest for a new one... but I think all of the finalists are VERY uninspiring. There were apparently 250 entries and it's been narrowed down to 5. I’d like to see your takes on what you think one of the rejected 245 entries would look like. Here’s the 5 finalists and my imagined version of a rejected logo:
“Decoration Day at Arlington Cemetery,” 5/30/1919
Series: Photographs of American Military Activities, ca. 1918 - ca. 1981. Record Group 111: Records of the Office of the Chief Signal Officer, 1860 - 1985.
