Vitello Cordon Bleu – Palliards lightly breaded, stuffed with prosciutto and mozzarella, baked in white wine cream sauce. $15.99
Armend’s is a classic example of America’s version of a family Italian restaurant. The place was inviting, quick to greet, and helpful in providing options. The lighting was a little dark, but it does set the atmosphere. Not exactly the quickest service, but at least that implies that food isn’t readymade. In fact, they want to make their customers aware that the food is made to order.
"Benvenuti… Since our cuisine is cooked to order, time is required for proper preparation and presentation. Your patience and understanding is gratefully acknowledged and deeply appreciated."
Vitello Cordon Bleu: I have very little personal experience with veal entrées. In fact, prior to this, I can only think of one other occasion, and it was rather unsatisfactory. I selected this dish in hopes that it would change my opinion on veal. Sadly, this was not the case.
I wanted to give the veal a chance, so I tried eating it in a variety of ways: As it was, without the prosciutto, without the mozzarella, without the prosciutto & mozzarella. No matter how I ate it, it just wasn’t tempting. At best, it was acceptable. Unless something changes, I will be under the assumption that I do not like veal. In addition, I do not think I’m a big fan of prosciutto either.
For you veal lovers, this might be something you want. I can’t advise one way or another. I just know that I am apparently not partial to veal.
The pasta, on the other hand, was terrific. The white wine cream sauce really grabbed my attention. If I had it my way, I would eat only this. So for future reference, I will focus more on the pasta section of Armend’s menu.
