Are there fandoms for online video games? The kind that are published on Newgrounds, kongregate etc?
We Want to Publish Your Game, Maybe!
So as some of you may know, I used to be a games journalist for almost ten years, specializing in indie games. Now I work for a company called Armor Games Studios. You may know us from ArmorGames.com, which has been around for a pretty long time, and we’ve been sponsoring the creation of Flash games for over a decade.
But! We also publish indie games, too, for console, desktop, and mobile. Our first big releases, Pinstripe (by the indomitable Thomas Brush) and The Adventure Pals (by Massive Monster) hit console early next year, and we’re so proud to be working with so many talented folks on even more projects. We don’t want to take a traditional publisher relationship where we call the shots and pull the strings... we want to get you what you need to help you make your game, be that funding, QA, design help, artists, musicians, console ratings and certification, localization, and more, and help guide you to make your project a reality we’re both proud of.
Which... sounds pretty market-y, I know, but I guess the best way of putting it is we love games. And we want to make more of them, and help the people who make them succeed in the way that THEY want to. So whoever you are, and whatever you’re making... we’d love to hear from you! You can learn more about us here, https://armorgamesstudios.com/about/, and contact us through our website if you want to pitch, or if you just have a question... you can ask me too!
Not everyone wants a publisher. And not everyone needs one, for that matter. But I’ve spent, like... all of my adult life working in the indie gaming industry, and I feel so fortunate to work with other folk who just want to help make games, and it would mean so much to me if I can help seeing more new talent realize their dreams. I have seen way too many cool, funky, and important projects die on Kickstarter because they didn’t get enough attention, or just struggle to get noticed.
It doesn’t matter if you’re making a romantic visual novel, a dystopian RPG, a cutesy puzzle game, or anything else. It doesn’t matter if you think it’s weird, or it’s niche, or you have incorrect feelings about whether pineapple belongs on pizza. (I mean... it does, but I’ve been strongly reprimanded against automatically turning down people who hate it.) If it’s fun, and creative, and you have a vision, we’re open to talking about it. We may not be the right fit for each other, but we’ll never know if you don’t reach out. I hope we hear from you!
