Sophistafunk with Joe Driscoll & DJ Afar April 8th – Funk ‘n Waffles Downtown – Syracuse
I was lucky enough to attend 3 shows a few weeks back at the new Funk ‘n Waffles in Syracuse. Funk ‘n Waffles Downtown prepares for a busy week of live music
Funk ‘n Waffles Downtown, Syracuse’s premier live music venue in Armory Square, prepares for a solid week of Live Music April 8th-11th.
Starting things off proper on Wednesday is Sophistafunk, the renegades of CNY funk, with local legend Joe Driscoll opening up the night. These guys have collaborated in the past, and a high octane dance party always ensues. I expect no less tonight!

Rock Camp!!
I've been sitting up in this office for about five weeks, and for the past three I've had the pleasure of listening to students from local high schools jam on guitars, base, and drums.
There are five bands, comprised of musicians in middle and high school, and a separate program, Little Rockers, for kids aged six to ten.
The teachers, a mix of local educators and veteran musicians, are partially drawn from local bands. One, Kevin Dean, just returned from a tour with the nationally touring group Heart.
Rock camp is just one of the Redhouse's educational programs, all of which are headed by Marguerite Mitchell. She and her colleagues can be seen with the young musicians, seemingly everywhere at once, encouraging their talents and overseeing the project -- which is comprised of nearly 70 kids.
Rock Camp will culminate in a concert this Friday, Aug 15, at 7pm.
I can tell from the sounds drifting upstairs that this is a show Syracuse will not want to miss!
