Today I received a message from a good friend in Montauk and I was a little thrown back when I heard what he said... To hear that the #ArmyCorpofEngineers is demolishing sections of sand dunes along the Montauk Coastline. Sections that act as natural barriers and have acted this way since forever. I've seen a recurring theme in education around this topic and it seems like the standard symptom solution.... Where we have introduced our modern living into a natural area and as @kellyslater very accurately put it, tried to "fight nature" in order to fix the disastrous symptoms caused by the initial human change. This only leads to further and further damage to the natural coastline, the natural course of our earth, and for some reason it seems as though the locals have not had a say in what happens to the coastline that they have walked most of their lives, the coastline they have surged around, the coastline they have built houses from scratch on, the coastline they love. I encourage everyone to spread this message in the hopes that it will create some influence and affect for the right reasons.
