Open Sessions 7: Hibernating Plan is a group exhibition that considers drawing in relationship to the sense of suspended time inherent in planning. Featuring artists #ShereeHovsepian, #RafaelKelman, #ArnoldKemp, #ThessiaMachado, #SunMoqing, #SaraChangYan, and #TuguldurYondonjamts, the exhibition explores the notion of the “sketch” in relation to the instinct to hibernate, intuit, and mull over. Tuguldur Yondonjamts’ installation for Open Sessions 7 is the beginning of a new and expansive project drawing on ancient mythology from Greece to the Altai mountain region bordering Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Russia and China. According to Greek legend, the dragon Ladon, son of Echidna, was guarding a garden when he was killed by Heracles; where his blood spilled, a Dracaena Cinnabari tree start to grow. Yondonjamts has made a “hibernating suit” in the form of Ladon with the intention of eventually traveling to the region where the myth originated, where he will sleep in it, in an attempt to understand the language of a hidden ancient world. #OpenSessions7 #TuguldurYondonjamts Photo: Tuguldur Yondonjamts’s installation at The Drawing Center.
