Join us this Thursday, August 25 at 6:30pm for a FREE Sound Performance! In tandem with our ongoing Gabriel de la Mora exhibition, this is the second of two performances organized by #ThessiaMachado, an artist whose cross-media performance practice addresses the links between sound and drawing. #LeaBertucci is a musician who alters traditional instruments to act as vehicles for surround sound. In addition to composing music, Bertucci creates graphical scores that re-imagine the manner in which sound is spatialized. #Antenes (aka Lori Napoleon) is an experimental musician whose practice utilizes obsolete phone equipment that she transforms into modular synthesizers and sequencers. #performance #free Photograph courtesy of Lea Bertucci. The fabric provides a sense of veiling (or covering and uncovering) speaking to Hovsepian’s physical movements and their receptivity to light sensitive paper in the darkroom. Hovsepian (b. 1974, Iran) lives and works in New York City. Her work develops from a photographic impulse that is explored and expanded in ways entering formal, sculptural, and material relevance while maintaining a physicality that relates naturally to the artist’s hand. #OpenSessions @shereehovsepian 📸: detail from work on view at The Drawing Center (at The Drawing Center)

Tuguldur Yondonjamts’ installation for Open Sessions 7 is the beginning of a new and expansive project drawing on ancient mythology from Greece to the Altai mountain region bordering Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Russia and China. According to Greek legend, the dragon Ladon, son of Echidna, was guarding a garden when he was killed by Heracles; where his blood spilled, a Dracaena Cinnabari tree start to grow. Yondonjamts has made a “hibernating suit” in the form of Ladon with the intention of eventually traveling to the region where the myth originated, where he will sleep in it, in an attempt to understand the language of a hidden ancient world. #OpenSessions7 #TuguldurYondonjamts Photo: Tuguldur Yondonjamts’s installation at The Drawing Center.
