My dearest miserable Magda Baratheon. For the uninitiated, she’s the youngest sister of Robert Stannis and Renly, so u gotta push back the war a couple years to make it work but whatever. Shes in the Robb-Marg age range. Personality wise she’s got the classic stubbornness of her brothers, as well as being outgoing and quick witted and spunky with a bit of good hearted mischievousness, but she’s also deeply lonely and isolated from being raised without any present family members yayyy

Early to mid childhood, when's she's shuttled back and forth between Storms End and Kings Landing depending on where Stannis wants her. Not dressed in the usual shapeless, true dark ages medieval fashion I headcannon for the stormlands bc she's in the capital so much and is dressed in more of the Tudor-style fashions of the court, but it also isn't usually as restrictive and cumbersome as the things Cersei wore as a child. Relatively simple because she'll end up ripping stitches and tearing things off while she runs around the Red Keep

By her tweens, the septas are forcing her to dress like she's actually the sister of the king. The classic stiff, square bodice and full skirts of the Tudor style, but she's also good at convincing the tailors not to stitch the sleeves too tight or making the boning of her stays too stiff. Usually wears her house colors, and isn't too decorative with her clothes bc she thinks it makes her look kinda stupid. However sometimes she is forced into the gaudiest gown in the seven kingdoms when there's a ball or feast and Renly has custody for the week

WALL TIMEEEE when Robert and Renly get bopped, Stannis takes her and sends her to get married so he can secure an alliance with some northern lord. However this northern lord is super into the nights watch and likes to send men there and go to the wall to larp for some reason. So over the course of like three months Magda goes from sister of the king to pregnant teenager bride at the wall. Yayyyy. Anyways she is absolutely not prepared for northern weather and is kind of wearing a hodgepodge of whatever winter appropriate clothing she has or can find on the way to the wall. Layers that don't match, always looks like a little miserable bundle of fabric.

Richard's writing truly is exceptional. Even if one hasn't gone through exact same experiences (sadly for me, we do share some painful stuff) it really connects to you. Its just so full of humanity in all the messy, complex, beautiful ways and there's something for everyone. You can't help not feel seen.

last friday i was seated for a final exam and a close friend of mine was seated right behind me and she poked my back so ofc i turn around and make a little inquisitive noise and tilt my head and she just stares at me and laughs and im like 'what? what did you want?' and she said 'nothing, nothing' so i turned back before she continued with 'idk no one else would react like that i just wanted to (playfully) annoy you'.

this got me thinking: what would have been the right reaction to this ??

alright, time for a magnus au rundown

vanya got dragged into the lonely for a time. very rarely did she actually have the whole fog - covered no - one - around experience, but it tried very hard to claim her as one of its victims, and would have succeeded if she didn’t join an orchestra at exactly the right time.

i’m stealing a bit from the comics here : the conductor of vanya’s new orchestra was under the influence of the slaughter as well, and gave vanya a violin that was somewhat cursed. she saw it as a lovely gift, and at first she was able to ignore the amount of violence that began to spring up when she played — the fights backstage between the other members of the orchestra, the commotions she heard outside when she practiced in her apartment.

she wouldn’t have noticed at all, probably, if the conductor wasn’t so gleeful whenever it happened in the theater they rehearsed in. as it is, she caught on. the conductor was the first person she actually killed — a slash to the throat with a bow suddenly as sharp as a knife.

it felt good. she hadn’t anticipated it would feel so good to kill.

the lonely tried to get to her one last time after that, as without a conductor the orchestra essentially dissolved and left her without much socialization again, and thus a prime target. it didn’t quite get the memo that she was busy becoming something else. she played her violin within that foggy space and felt a rage bubble up inside her, overpowering any other feeling, making sure that gray emptiness had no room to get in — and it worked.

the lonely spit her out somewhere in europe as one last fuck - you. she finds her way to the archives to make a statement eventually. she moves around quite a bit, lest anyone think of figuring out patterns of violence with her involved, but it’s never very hard for her to find an orchestra — her music draws people in now with a magnetism it didn’t have before.

she limits the violence she causes somewhat, tries not to hurt any innocent people, but also has a very loose idea of what ‘innocence’ entails and cares just a bit more about the way it makes her feel when riots pop up in her orchestra’s crowds or people follow her to their deaths like the pied piper ... so she’s a bit bloodthirsty, a bit unhinged, a bit terrifying. she has the capacity for sweetness and kindness, but obviously those aren’t the traits the slaughter is known for, and though she doesn’t think of her actions as any kind of worship or feeding of a god, she is almost zealous in her commitment to violence.
