When You Rewatch Eqg and saw some red flags...
So I've been rewatching Eqg, and I have some concerns-
If you're still confused, I'm going to point out why these gave me red flags.
Touch sensitive
This one is the easiest to explain, so I'm starting this first.
In Rainbow Rocks, it's easy to think that Sunset hugs to herself and flinches because there's a popular headcanon where her demon transformation is very painful to her, therefore she hasn't recovered from the physical trauma she received in the Fall Formal and it makes sense if she shys away from physical contact.
Yet, even after Rainbow Rocks, she still hugs to herself.
(There are so many moments of this, but I don't want to overload the post with pictures)
Normally, I would have think that this is just a nervous habit if it weren't from how Sci-Twi acted during the Friendship Games and Legend of Everfree.
This is going to be uncomfortable to talk about, but if you watch every single scene of Sci-Twi and Cinch together, you'd notice how Twilight will flinch when the old woman touches her. This makes sense since Principals aren't really allowed to touch their students unless it's to comfort them and Cinch wasn't really doing that.
(Friendship Games is kind of hard to watch now that I realize how creepy Cinch is being but that's a topic for another day.)
While I doubt that transforming into Midnight Sparkle was physically painful for Twilight, she still hugs to herself and flinches in surprise during the Legend of Everfree. And this makes sense, because Twilight just got out of a toxic environment and you can't really expect habits to die that fast.
What's worrying is that while Twilight stopped those habits after Legend of Everfree, Sunset didn't.
2) Self-blame and other word habits.
This one happens less but it's still there.
Every time something bad happens because someone was messing around (Big examples; Twilight by accident during the Friendship Games and Rainbow Dash doing it on purpose in Spring Breakdown.)
And every single time, Sunset's first instinct is to blame herself.
There's also the times where she thinks badly about herself.
One half of the time can be understanble considering from the guilt of her past actions but the other half has to come from somewhere else.
3) Talk about home
The human world may be Sunset's home now, but you'd think that Sunset would talk about Equestria or her family.
The closest thing we could get from canon information about her family is from the Holiday comic where Sunset says she barely gets along with her family.
And if you consider Celestia as Sunset's family, then you need to remember that envy in Sunset's voice during the first movie and then in Rainbow Rocks when it comes to Twilight. So it's safe to say that Sunset felt neglected during her studies with Celestia.
The comics aren't canon as far as I know, and if Sunset was a teenager during her time as Celestia's student, you'd think she'd be a bit more mature with the neglect even when she's hurt.
But if time does flow on the same pace on both worlds, and Sunset might be around Twilight's age, add into the fact that the portal opens every two years along with how Sunset has been the Fall Formal Queen for three times and the fact that Bible confirmed that the Eqg cast are 16 years old-
Sunset was 12 years old when she left Equestria.
And while her anger at Celestia makes more sense and that's to be discussed about some time later, this also brings up a concerning issue that happened in Forgotten Friendship-
When Wallflower tried to erase all of the Humane 6's memories of High School, Sunset jumped in to protect them.
Naturally, Sunset wouldn't remember being human so her panic here makes sense, but if she thought that she was 12 during this scene...
Why call out for Celestia instead of her parents?
4) The biggest red flag
And then there's the most concerning one and the one that encourage me to make this post.
This is not the face I would make if I was expecting my apology to get rejected.
Okay so what we've known about Sunset's relationship with Celestia so far, is that while the two care for each other; Celestia still neglected Sunset enough to the point where Sunset doesn't know how her former teacher reacts to certain situations.
Even if that's the point, why would Sunset react like this? You can see the fear in her eyes and she tried to leave when Celestia got closer.
If I didn't know any better, I'd say Sunset was expecting to get hit.
In Conclusion; Sunset was abused.
And when she became Celestia's student, she thought ambition will be the only way to set her free from her parents. But feeling neglected, she ran away.
When she learned that she was replaced by Twilight, she felt angry, and wanted to get back at Celestia.
But now all her anger is gone, and Sunset wanted to be better, to have what she needed; a family that cares for her.
