TW: There is some mild description of gore i suppose, and body horror in a sort, please tell me if there's something I've missed and need to put a warning for!!
AHEM:
A long time ago, humans had no magic. They lived in nearly constant war, fighting over materials that they needed to survive. The world was advancing slowly, and the only cell phones they had sometimes took minutes to load items. They had huge, bulky computers and blurry photos on cameras.
Then, a biologist by the name of Callie Seura was on an expedition through a huge forest. The group split up to cover more ground before nighttime. As Callie was walking, she saw a huge clearing that no human seemed to have ever touched. She ventured in, seeing bright lights inside.
When she got in, she became the first human to officially see Wild Magic. Of, course, she showed her discovery to her group. They were very excited, and, considering their expedition a success, they went home. They didn't think to protect this newly discovered species that was now all over the news.
Mass hunting began. People began hunting and capturing the Wild Magic. Now people all across the world were reporting that they had actually been the first to see Wild Magic and thought that they were fireflies. Callie got to name the new species, as she had discovered it. She thought it looked like magic in the books, with no wings, that soft glow, flying about. She called it Ferus Majik, or Wild Magic. She used an ancient language called Greek, and the tradition of using it has been kept in naming many things today.
One day, a hunter killed his first Wild Magic. He wanted to make a beautiful meal for his family. He took it and embedded it into a turkey that he had cooked for Thanksgiving. His family was amazed at his ability to be able to catch such a rare creature, and to share his first meal of it too. However, as the turkey got eaten, orbs of many colors appeared next to each member of the family. Nobody knows their initial reaction at the orbs, but many assumed it was shock. What we do know is that when they touched their orbs, they became the one color that best represented their owner.
Of course, the family had to explain how they got these orbs by their sides. The orbs helped with everyday tasks and performed feats that everybody called magic.
After the family revealed how they had gotten their companions, the mass hunting of magic began. Everywhere, civilizations of Wild Magic were disappearing, and the Majike Sfaira companions were the "hot new pet."
Eventually, the Wild Magics were hunted nearly to extinction. All over the world, remaining civilizations were moved into protected areas, and nobody was allowed inside. Still today, the population of the species has not fully recovered.
Soon, of course, young people with Majike Sfaira wanted kids. However, during ultrasounds, doctors reported something odd. Inside of the womb, along with the baby, there was a Majike Sfaira. Instantly, people around with their own magical orbs either tried to get rid of them, or tried to have a child before their orb grew too old. At that point in time, people did not know that magic didn't die of old age. In fact, they grew stronger as they got older, only able to die by murder.
Thousands of people killed their orbs, making the population of magic grow even smaller. The population of Wild Magic was growing so small still that if you didn't want your orb, you had to send it to breed with Wild Magic to try and grow the population back up. It was not a good time.
Soon, the children with orbs were born, but the orbs didn't come with them. Only small specks of cracked magic stayed in the children's hair as they got older, and they themselves seemed to be able to harness the magic that the orbs had given them. People began calling them Majike Imantes, or Magic Harnessers.
Over time, the Magic Harnessers had children, now with the magical flecks in their skin. They were called Neos Imantes, or New Harnessers. People began becoming jealous of them. They wanted their powers. Luckily then, magical and non-magical people lived in harmony, though there were still some jealous non-magical people.
These jealous people raided the Wild Magic reserves, making the already small population even smaller. They killed and ate the magic. They forcefully broke their orbs into pieces and pushed the flecks into their skin. It was painful, but they got the magic. It was corrupted, though, and out of control because of the way it was gained. Most of these people were captured and are now in prisons, as magic like that gives you a ridiculously long life.
Eventually, magic became suited to what the person was most skilled at. Some people harnessed their magic and put them into beads, which then allowed the people here at MAGIC to use other abilities besides their main type well.
Then, we get to present day. Magic is unable to be seen on a person. Only detectors can be used to detect the magic in a person. Today, magical people aren't considered humans, though they have the same rights and are treated the same. Non-magical scientists call them magikoi laoi, or Magic Peoples. Magic is in every species now, though only humans and a few other magical animals have managed to harness it into something powerful.
(Wow this really is a rant-)
ANYWAYS that's the history of Magic!! Now onto the more like nitty-gritty stuff
There is a school system for people who possess Magic, and it's called MAGIC (Magical Academy for Geniuses and Impromptu Chaos). That's where a lot of the ocs I yap about are from!!! If they're from there I will use the tag EYKI MAGIC (which stands for 'everything you know is' and then the MAGIC acronym, because the two books about the world start with everything you ____ is so yeah)
Below this cut is effects of Magic on users!!
Info you should know:
Corrupted Magic: Magic gained through illegal/unnatural ways. The most common way of this is by killing a Wild Magic (which are all in reserves so its illegal to kill them) and cutting them up and stuffing the bits into your skin!! Fun right-
Anapiroderm: Basically, if you have natural Magic, it's painful scarring from overuse of Magic, and if you have Corrupted Magic, its cracks opening up your skin to reveal nothing beneath
Effects of Normal Magic
When someone uses a normal amount of Magic, they use energy, just as you do when you walk or run or eat. It may seem like it doesn’t take a lot out of you, but do it for multiple minutes and you could be exhausted. Though “Normal Magic” is simply Magic at a person’s skill level, it is different for everyone. Even using Magic at your skill level for long periods of time can permanently disable you.
Mental
Magic can take a toll on someone’s mentality. If the Magic they used was gained in corrupt ways, it could possibly brainwash a person and hurt many people. Spells could have the opposite effect than what was intended with Magic gained in ways like these.
If the Magic was gained through natural ways, there are still mental effects from using magic. Some of these symptoms are a mild to pounding headache, inability to concentrate, or even intense anxiety and panic attacks, if used way too much.
Physical
Corrupted Magic, as with mental effects, effects the user differently than natural means of Magical gain. With Corrupted Magic, cracks could form on your skin, bleeding out colorful Magic whenever you cast a spell. It can also become uncontrollable and explode everywhere, even killing someone by slowly pulling their limbs apart. For corrupted Magic, it can cause fainting spells, cracked skin, death, broken limbs, and impossible conditions (such as rotting skin, dark matter corruption, etc.)
Magic gained through natural means still have effects, but they are much less severe. Naturally gained Magic can cause fainting in used excessively, for lesser strain it can cause unexplained wounds, though they should not be mistaken for cracks, and odd changes in weight and extreme exhaustion.
On Magic
Using Magic too much can also affect the Magic itself. With corrupted Magic, it could turn against it’s user, tearing it apart from the inside out to escape it’s grasp. It could also outright refuse to be used, depleting the user of their Magic.
Natural Magic is part of it’s user, and not completely separate from them. The Magic could grow weaker, have random “blocks” where one could be using their Magic and it seems to flicker in and out, causing their Magic to not work correctly.
Effects Of Intense Magic
Intense Magic is Magic being used above a person’s skill level, which can have much worse effects than simply overusing a person’s Normal Magic. Using Intense Magic can easily permanently disable you, and also kill.
Mental
Corrupted Magic can easily destroy everything a person was for, essentially taking their soul. It could even cause a person to end their own life.
Naturally gained Magic will give the user intense anxiety and fear until they recover, and can leave them with a sort of “concussion” for life, essentially a chronic headache.
Physical
Corrupted Magic either causes you to be crippled for life or die, among other conditions. One common condition has gotten its own name, Anapiroderm. This condition causes your skin to crack apart, but not with blood. It cracks apart to reveal a “dark matter” substance, and causes extreme pain and suffering. If left untreated for long, it can cause a person to break into multiple pieces while still being alive until stabbed in the heart, essentially eternal suffering until you get stabbed.
Natural Magic still has effects, but not as severe. It can cause fainting, dizziness, sudden cardiac arrest, heart attacks, strokes, and seizures. It can cause Anapiroderm, but a much less severe version of it. It just causes cracks in the skin that bleed and hurt horribly. However, with the less severe version, at least you body can’t break into multiple pieces.
On Magic
With corrupted Magic, the effects are quite severe. The Magic, being separate from its user, will almost always revolt against them, and refuse to be used. It could also just die, which would essentially leave a corrupted and angry powerful dead being inside of you. One that’s also rotting, which will also rot your body.
Natural Magic will almost always cause Magic block. Magic rarely dies, but when it does, since it’s a part of the person, the person typically ends up depressed. The rarest condition is when the users shove their Magic too far down into their subconscious, and are unable to reach it. This can be cured by gentle reassurance and a deep dive into the user’s psyche, where they can typically find the “object” that is inside their head, which is actually their Magic.
If you made it this far: how??? and thank you for reading my rant :3
Also I can bet that none of that made sense I'm sorry-
