That’s all she wrote folks! It’s game over on the spin off. Why it took nearly a year to announce it is beyond me, but we finally have an official statement from the network. So, we can all stop speculating at least.

We still don’t know why the Monitor brought FTA back to the year 2019, and I can’t imagine it’s because he just likes drama, which he clearly does. What can you tease about his motivation?
Ben: Yeah, I think the Monitor and the fans have that in common, and the writers as well. I don’t think I can speak to why the Monitor did this, but I can say I think from a creative standpoint, I think the writers really recognized maybe some of the concerns that some of the fans had about the future storyline just being a little bit grim and hopeless. Now that’s really been turned on its head and anything is possible.
Sounds hopeful to me! I still don’t believe the future will be totally reset, because then there’s no drama for the spin off. But hopefully a little more light and hope is injected into 2040 - particularly regarding Zoe’s survival and JJ Diggle.
A few spoilery tidbits from the paps on 8x09 - the backdoor spin off. I wanted to put these under the cut in case some of you don’t want to be spoiled. It’s nothing major. Just interesting.
First, there was some confusion as to whether or not Arrow was officially wrapped. We were told by the cast and crew that they wrapped on Wednesday, but the paps caught them filming yesterday. According to Marc they were still filming for 8x09.
There are pictures of Mia and William standing in front of their dad’s statue.
There was also a driving scene
and a dark haired woman on a motorcycle (stunt driver). I think it’s Dinah headed out of town or arriving - whichever works.
According to Ken, Stephen still has something to film, so who knows whether he’s really done or not. I don’t really care either way. lol I was mostly excited about this:

Those ungrateful Star City twats are finally giving Oliver the respect he deserves. No, I do not think this means he is really dead or stays dead. The fandom chatter on Twitter is this is feeling similar to the end of The Dark Knight Rises.
And if true, then I’ll be 100% okay with that. Thrilled actually. Makes sense since the Dark Knight trilogy inspired Arrow to begin with.
And if things have a more positive light on them in the future (as Ben Lewis hinted) then I will gladly accept that as well. I still don’t think we’ll get a full reset (I’m not going to be convinced of that off a few pap shots with little context). I just don’t think that’s something Arrow would do. But change a few things? Yes. I think Zoe will survive, the city will appreciate Oliver Queen as a hero, maybe the crime isn’t horrific and JJ Diggle doesn’t become Satan (i.e. irredeemable villain).
But according to Marc they managed to keep something secret, so I think there are still plenty of surprises left. And these ones really aren’t that shocking.
Arrow’s 2040 timeline has revealed its own Deathstroke, and beneath the marauder’s mask is the face of no less than John Diggle and Lyla Michaels’ biological son, John Jr. aka JJ.…
