Hi! Just saw your post about moving to Norway to volunteer and this is something I wanted to do for a very lomg time. Are there any details you feel comfortable sharing about where and how? Thank you!!!
I applied at an organisation called ASF (or ARSP in English (Action Reconsiliation Service for Peace)). They have many volunteer projects in Europe and the US as a reconsiliation effort for the crimes of the Nazis. The projects are mainly for German youth to volunteer in other countries, but there are a few for foreigners to volunteer in Germany, Poland and the UK.
My project was at Stiftelsen Signo, which is a place that provides accommodation and work for deaf and hard of hearing people with additional disabilities. So in addition to learning Norwegian, I also learned Norwegian Sign Language. Three days a week I worked with the clients at the work places, crafting bags, pottery and also providing help if they needed it. The other two days I worked at one of the accommodations, cooking food and helping the clients get ready.
Lovely to hear that you also want to volunteer. I had a lot of fun and learned a lot, so I hope you'll get a good experience too.
