Last spring, I attended a beginner’s acrylics class and this was the first study.

I’m now attending the same class again. Same instructor. So, same activity.

I’m so proud of the growth!! The improved shading! The ability to put in a background!

My mantra this time around is ‘play with paint.’ Just play. It’s funny how such a simple reframe shifted me into a have fun mindset, leaving the ‘must make something good or you’ve failed and wasted paint’ mindset in the dust. Took off so much pressure.

The Praxinoscope Development

These are some of the developmental work I did to make my AS final piece, a Praxinoscope of a ice skater spinning. The top shows the first work for it, the development of the idea and some animation practice. The second is fabric studies which were completed for the outside of the Praxinoscope as a pattern. The third image is some of the tests and experiments for what style of colouring was to be used on the ice skater. I concluded that the last one was best as it was colourful but not too hard to replicate unlike the other more experimental paintings.

Acrylic dancers

These were a series of acrylic trials I did to practice my acrylic painting before going onto oil paints, but also to practice painting the human form.

Ceramic Movement Sculptures

These ceramic sculptures were created to show the human form and movement in simply shaped sculptures. I began by creating designs in my A3 sketchbook to trial how best to create them and what shapes to make. I then moved into the physical creation and glazing of the pieces. Finally I wrote an evaluation of the three sculptures in my A3 sketchbook.
