People tell me they like this record and I wonder if they realize how literal the song is. It was an actual night some months ago where me and a couple of my guys went out downtown to take this Space Invader piece off a building. I got the idea to take it, flip it, sell it and make like 10 G's to invest back into the music. I figured why not.
I'll take a Space Invader off the wall
I'm downtown chillin', this is my town and building
I'm a light brown villain, never lie down, willin'
going out making a killin', this is just how I'm feeling, what?
It felt crazy, haha. My boy has a black pickup truck we loaded a big ass ladder into. I asked around to see if what I was doing was technically illegal and everybody said the same thing, that whether it was illegal or not, a cop could easily not know and arrest me just to make sure. No biggie. I had a good meal before setting out and wore warm clothes and shit.
I'll take the ladder out the truck
I'm thinking, as easy as he put it up
what the fuck, I'll take it down
that's a 10 thou investment, so the million dollar question
is how far you willin' to go for what you want? don't test him
Exit Through The Gift Shop came out earlier in the year and really put me in the mindset that getting your name out there can really just be a fun game of who's gonna do the craziest, most insane and prolific shit. I had heard of Banksy and Space Invader and these guys but never really knew how lawless and independent they were, just running around the world with their messages and ideals. It was crazy inspiring to say the least.
I seen Exit Through The Gift Shop
this is art, this is Hip-Hop, these are street kids like me
My friend came up with the term "Art Bully" referring to me going out and taking these guys' pieces down haha. I thought it was funny as shit at first but it kind of stuck. Like most stuff I write, I had no idea it would turn into a record.
it's a business, I'm the Art Bully, I'm coming through the night
there's no piece that's too high, I'm climbing right there up on the side, that's right
Actually being up there on the ladder downtown NYC was a trip. People had no idea if I was putting the piece up or taking it down. Kids stopped, started wilding out, getting excited. Some people thought I was Space Invader himself.
people taking pictures, everyone's a witness
I don't need nothing, just me and my niggas waiting 'round the corner
hoodie on, come holla if you wanna
this New York, something I like goes up in my town, I'm taking it down
The hook came out of nowhere. Like I said, I didn't know it would turn into a record like that but I wrote "ART BULLY" on twitter and my boy said it more and more and it just stuck. It reminded me of the shit Tyler the Creator always says on stage and gets people to chant. Or at least I thought people might think that. I'm not the biggest fan but I realized I definitely took that shit.
Look, don't talk to me about the hook
cops could come at any second, I got a job to overlook look,
good artists copy here and there, the best are crooks
there's only one Creator I gotta answer to, respect the jux
The whole point of this thing was to hopefully be able to sell the piece to one of the auction houses in New York and make some money to put back into what me and my friends are doing.
I got a plan, flip every dollar that I can
fund projects just for me and my mans, and build the brand
a couple of nights in jail don't scare me enough to fail, you kidding?
respect the mothafuckin' hustle, get the sale

A funny anecdote to this story is a guy came out of the building at one point and threatened to call the cops. It was pretty annoying and I fought him about it for a while saying I wasn't doing anything illegal and to leave me alone. He eventually left but we decided we should leave and come back. No need to spend a night in jail if we could get around it. I had about a third of the piece in my possession and I left the rest. It was crazy difficult to rip off the wall without damaging the piece. It was a Friday night. On Saturday, the next day, we came back at the same time and the rest of it was gone. I was heartbroken haha. I couldn't believe it. My boy said it was probably the building that had it removed or whatever. I didn't understand. It hadn't even been 24 hours and it was a Saturday. I was so mad. Months later, recently, like 3 weeks ago I came across a blog headline saying something about a Space Invader thief. I could not fucking believe it. There was a picture of a guy in a suit taking the rest of piece off the building. There's no way to find out who he is and he's somewhere out there with half my shit. Goes to show you man. I should of just finished what I started.
