Mikele news!
It’s my birthday!!
The last few months have been exceptionally difficult. For me personally, with my workplace being impacted so heavily, and for my country and the world as a whole, which is hurting in so many ways due to a combination of incompetence, apathy, and cruelty motivated by the greed and vanity of a few powerful people. It is hard not to feel powerless in the face of that. I am reminding myself, though, to step out of the current moment and appreciate the things that don’t suck:
* I am alive
* I am surrounded by friends and family who I love and who love me
* I have time for artistic expression, through art and dance
* I have cats!
* There are so many places to explore and so many new things to learn
* So many amazing cartoons exist 😂
* There are people writing wonderful stories and creating amazing art
* Even in the face of everything, my coworkers wore my silly party hats and celebrated with me today
* There is sushi and there is dancing, and I am enjoying both tonight with my amazing partner of 12 years
* There will be a time that isn’t this time
I have lived another year and I am determined to continue living and, as has been the philosophy of my thirties, continue to find joy 💖
A decade of art, and I can’t believe I can see progress :,) Thank you so much everyone for your support these last years!! It means a lot to me!
As the year is swiftly and inexplicably coming to an end—and the whole darn decade for that matter—I thought I’d do a post about my art changes for the past 10 years! ✨💕🎉 Now I’ve never had a very strong style, and my constant starting/stopping of practicing means I haven’t gotten insanely better, but in behind-the-scenes terms it really has been night and day. 👌🥳 Here’s to 10 more years!! ✍️💪
2009 ---> 2019 ! Thought I’d bust out my anime style for a better comparison
my guys I have just kept on drawing the same things for the past 10 years and you know what? that’s ok
Summaries: 2010 I participated in an OCT with Day and we got pretty far! I also drew a whole bunch of random stuff on index cards with highlighters.
2011 I got VERY INTO HOMESTUCK and also VERY INTO COLOR EXPERIMENTATION! Went hog wild on adobe's color palette site, which was called kuler at the time and you can see all the stuff I drew by searching that tag on my blog
2012 was more of 2011 but now with bees? for a school project, also starting to work on another project with Day that happened for real in 2014
2013 I graduated and got back into neopets and started thinking about "what if I made a game some day..."
2014 I decided I wanted to make comics and then decided comics were a lot of work and decided I wanted to get into artist alley instead, which may have been a tiny huge mistake
2015 & 2016 were completely consumed by artist alley :)))
2017 I took a storyboarding class and started having feelings about characters and stories and applying what I now knew about camera angles and composition to artist alley stuff
2018 I didn't draw a lot! I did weeklybeats instead and also got into D&D, which took a lot of time
2019 I frontloaded all of the arting while prepping for Anime Expo, and I haven't drawn very much in the past few months, but I’ll be posting something from a couple weeks ago in a day or two! :3c
And in 2020.... i’m gonna... make..... a GAME............!!!!
