Today I saw photography by Wynn Bullock at Art Intersection in Gilbert, Arizona. It was a small show but I liked it a lot, particularly the images with reflections, shadows, and trees. Always. And I thought of Sally Mann’s work when I saw a big forest shot with a child nude. (Note to self: Listen to Sally Mann’s recent interview on Fresh Air.) I loved seeing all the black and white on the walls, which also made the “Color Light Abstractions” ultra vivid and gorgeous. We thought they were backlit at first – so bright and clear like the glass. C prints. Also, I included the gallery snap here of Wynn that was taken by Imogen Cunningham. It was stamped with her fancy signature and seal. Special.
“Light has become more important than anything in the object world. There is no life without light. All matter is some form of radiant energy. It is through the magic of photography that light becomes the subject matter with colors, forms, and space/time relationships that express my deepest feelings and beliefs.” http://www.wynnbullockphotography.com/quotes_cla.html
