Works of The Fozzy Book (Fozzy Castro Dayrit) will be available at the Seatizen’s Festival Art Shack on Sunday, September 15 at the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center from 7AM-6PM.
Before dipping her hands fully in calligraphy, Fozzy was an Advertising suit for eight years. Driven by inspiration, love of letters, and paper hoarding, she quit the corporate world and set out to focus on writing pretty. She is completely self-taught and dreams of joining the IAMPETH Convention one day.
Fozzy is a full-time mom to a feisty little girl named Hero, who is turning 2 in November.
What inspires you to create?
Anything, really. Happiness. Sadness. The idea that I could actually create something. Sometimes it's just a little spark of an idea, and I create it anyway. Sometimes it fails, so it forces me to stop and sulk for a while. But then something new comes up and it's like a light bulb that suddenly turns on.
I like looking at works of people I look up to. I like looking at things totally unrelated to calligraphy and writing. Just to find that something that makes my heart go a little faster.
What advice would you give aspiring artists?
Just go ahead and do whatever you're passionate about doing. I taught myself how to do calligraphy and I don't regret all the fumbling, the embarrassment and the self-loathing. It helps you find your strength and helps you find who you in your art.
How did you get into (and love) calligraphy?
I've always been a fan of letters and paper. I was the kid that had an impossibly fat pencil case filled with markers and pens of every imaginable color.
I was really drawn into pointed-pen calligraphy (the style I focus on now) when I was preparing for my wedding. Inspirational blogs in the US always had beautiful writing and I really, just really wanted to do that. So I began researching and asking and pestering until I got answers and guidance for me to be able to do calligraphy on my own. I've never enjoyed a journey as much as this.

Save Philippine Seas (SPS) is celebrating its 2nd anniversary on Sunday, September 15, through the Seatizen’s Festival, a fundraiser activity to help support three (3) key efforts in uplifting the state of our seas: the Pawikan Watchers Program, Shark Shelter Project and Pating the documentary.
Green race
SPS and Run for Change (Run4change, Inc.) will be putting a new kind of fun in a fun run. The race will be a green raceand strictly implement various eco-friendly practices for minimal waste. Several aspects of the event will be done digitally or using recyclable materials. Runners are required to bring their own water bottles.
The run aims to reach out to 2,000 runners. The registration fee is only P300 for 1k, 3k, 5k, or 10k.
Runners are also encouraged to come in marine-inspired costumes made from recycled materials. Prizes await those with the most creative costumes. Singlets are available for P200.
Registration will be mainly done online to minimize paper wastes. Interested participants may register here.
All race and publicity materials printed on tarps will be donated to the Children’s Environmental Education Awareness Foundation, a non-profit organization that upcycles tarps into bags.
Sunday Market
The Sunday market will showcase up to forty exhibitors and feature creative activities, artwork by local artists, eco-friendly products, retailers, food establishments, and exhibits by NGOs and school organizations. It will also hold the Art Shack, a miniature and affordable art store featuring pieces from local artists and artisans that are designed around the concept of ecological awareness. Photography and art workshops will be held during the day as well.
The green practice extends here as well; all exhibitors will be encouraged to use recyclable or reusable materials for booth décor, product packaging, and other purposes. The Sunday Market will also implement the Quezon City ordinance banning plastic bags.
Rock the Boat concert
Exciting rock bands and performers, including the Itchyworms, Flying Ipis, and Absolute Zero, will be keeping seatizens entertained from 4PM onwards.
The Seatizen's Festival is co-presented by bobble water bottle and Havaianas. Other partners include Human Nature, WheninManila.com, and Mr. Kengkoy Backpacks.
