hi I love your bird! do you have any tips for using markers? I would love to try something like that
Hi!! It’s a coral Pukei Pukei from the Monster Hunter video game franchise. Tips you say? I gotchu!! 🥰
1. Do not press very hard when it comes to colors, you will make it darker than need be and it ruins the tip. Use a light touch when going up and apply pressure when moving the pen to you
2. When doing the pen strokes be careful when going around corners in art
3. Smooth and heavy paper will be your best friend! This stuff tends to not bleed through pages very easily

Deviating From The Anime Style
Anime art style is probably the style that most beginners start out with, which is super great! Its a great style that allows a lot of freedom and creativity!
But breaking the anime habit is a struggle we can probably all understand. What you have to understand is that anime style uses a lot of extremities!
Lets start off with the head shape.
An average head size can be created by drawing a circle, then adding half of the circle to the bottom.
Proportions are very important so that your faces dont turn out too small like so
Moving onwards we have the Placement of the Eyes, Nose, Mouth.
Eyes will always be on the center line of the head.
Placement of the eyebrows varies on whether you want a masculine or feminine face. Masculine faces tend to have eyebrows closer to the eyes whereas feminine faces have more space in between the eyes and brows.
The bottom of the Nose will always be in the middle of the eyebrows and chin.
The bottom of the Lips will always be in between the middle of the bottom of the Nose and chin.
This should help avoid making your faces too concentrated at the bottom
Feminine Eyes are usually larger and rest over the cheek area, while Masculine Eyes are smaller and elongated.
Usually the rest of the features are simplified and have less weight.
Necks are also made thinner.
This does not mean that you can’t use anime-ish features incorporated into your style!! Just because you want to deviate from it, does not mean you have to reject it! Faces can be smaller, Eyes can be larger, you are free to experiment with things, mix them up!
Experiment with things until you’re happy with a way your style works, and if you wake up one morning and think maybe you liked having the eyes bigger or the ears smaller, change it until you’re happy again.
can i have some advice? how do i deviate myself from anime-ish art style? (can u tag this as art-anon so that i can find it later thanks, also if u dont have an answer its Ok!!)
I used to have a more anime-like style too!! What I did was I looked at the artists that I looked up to and liked their styles and tried to copy the style. For example, I liked the way someone drew eyes, so when I was drawing, I tried to use THEIR eye style instead of my normal one, y’know??
Just try to take small things off from other people! Not DIRECT copying and tracing or anything, just “Oh hey I like how that person does noses and head shapes! I’m gonna draw it like them when I draw next time!” And have one of their pieces of art out to look at when you’re drawing!
It’ll take a while to get used to and memorize, but soon, you’ll have it down, and then your style will start to change and become something of your own!
Personally, I tried to copy http://monochromewasteland.tumblr.com/ a couple of years back! Their art style was DEFINITELY different back then, but I liked how they did their art and faces, so I loosely based my eye style off of theirs!
That’s all I can say as far as my own experience goes! I hope this helps!
