best to worst cook: inarizaki edition
this is mostly going off of timeskip, since there’s not much info on my boys omimi, akagi and ginjima!!
OSAMU is a chef so he practically lives in the kitchen. savoury foods are his preferred type to cook but there’s no doubting that he can whip up a dessert if he wants to. the only problem he has with baking is that he can’t manage to perfect the meringue. he’s the type to go the extra mile for a midnight snack, making himself a single serving of aglio olio rather than rummaging through the pantry for anything like a normal person.
KITA is diligent in everything, even cooking. his granny taught him every recipe that he knows, he could recite them to you word-for-word if he so desired. kita’s strong suit is in savoury foods and home remedies. he doesn’t bake much, not because he’s not good at it but because he’s not much of a sweet tooth. in saying that, he makes the best chocolate chip cookies in the world. they’re atsumu’s favourite.
OMIMI is a decent cook. he always makes his own food unless he’s going out to eat. that’s the only exception. omimi is more drawn to baking, he finds that it soothes him. his signature dish is a fruit tart, he loves the combination of sweet fruit with creamy custard. there’s a certain stress that comes to him with cooking savoury food, perhaps it’s the timing or the heat. he’s still trying to figure that out.
ARAN is not exactly the worlds best cook but he’s not the worst! he has to be following a recipe at all times, otherwise the food might be slightly off. aran is a little slow in the kitchen, especially when he’s chopping anything up. he doesn’t understand why his hands can’t cut at lightning speed like the chefs on tv. cooking and baking are equally as important to aran, he equally good at both of them too. sometimes when he needs a pick me up, he’ll bake himself a new york cheesecake.
AKAGI is your average joe in the kitchen. he doesn’t make food for himself all the time, opting to buy takeout after a long day of work. the majority of his dinners are sourced from one of those dinner subscriptions, it’s less of a hassle, apparently. akagi finds baking more difficult than cooking. it works well for him anyway because he’s more interested in the savoury anyway. he’s baked cookies a few times with kita and they turned out okay but it’s not quite his style, he says.
ATSUMU is not exactly a chef but he tries to make it work. he can make a perfect dish if he follows a recipe but he tends to ‘follow his heart’ while he cooks. it never ends well. it’s salvageable but it’s not what he wants it to be. atsumu prefers whipping up savoury food; once he tried recreating kita’s cookies and they didn’t turn out right. he vowed to never bake again. osamu knows why they sucked but he refuses to tell him. atsumu doesn’t like it.
SUNA isn’t the cooking type. he doesn’t really go into the kitchen unless he wants a glass of water or wants to eat instant ramen. he simply can’t be bothered. if he does make something for dinner, it’s usually frozen or from a box. suna has only baked once in his life and he despised every second of it. why is there so much technique involved? why can’t he just stir the batter normally instead of ‘folding’ it? what’s the difference?
GINJIMA is inarizaki’s worst cook by a landslide. everything he makes is burnt by the end of the process and he’s not sure why. suna muses that it’s his hot-headed nature, ginjima just thinks that the kitchen doesn’t like him. he wishes that he could make himself meat-wrapped fries at least once but it never happens. savoury food is what he’d like to specialise in. perhaps in another universe, ginjima.
