‘King of Arms Krew (Miami Chapter) Mass Processional Performance’ December 1st at 6:30pm Procession start: De La Cruz Collection, 23 NE 41st St, Miami, FL 33137 Via: NE 1st Av. to NE 40th St., and NE 40th St. End of parade: Courtyard of the Design and Architecture Senior High School As part of the opening ceremonies for the group exhibition 'UNREALISM' organized by Larry Gagosian and Jeffrey Deitch, Rashaad Newsome is using the Miami Design District as a creative space to expand on the idea of “figurative,” or more clearly described “representational art.” It is impossible to divorce representations from culture and the society that produces them. In the contemporary world there exists restrictions on subject matter, limiting the kinds of representational signs allowed to be employed, as well as boundaries that limit the audience or viewers of particular representations. Despite these restrictions, representations still have the ability to take on a life of their own once presented in the public sphere. Using this sphere as his creative space Newsome will conduct a mass processional performance based on his performance ‘King of Arms’, presented in New Orleans in 2013. The procession will consist of several members of the Miami Bike Life Crew, who will be performing outrageous stunts on ATV’s, dirt bikes and sport bikes, Florida Memorial marching band, playing Newsome’s original score, The King of Arms Vogue Knights, Newsome’s NYC based Vogue troop, The King of Arms float, Newsome's radically customized Lamborghini Murcielago, created in collaboration with @martinoautoconcepts , as well as a slew of Miami locals who share in Newsome’s reverence for custom car culture. Special thanks to Gagosian Gallery, Jeffrey Deitch, @garage_magazine and Craig Robins for helping to bring this project to life. #KingOfArmsMiami #RashaadNewsome #Deitch #TheDesignDistrict #DACRA #MiamiArtWeek #ArtBaselMiamiBeach2015 @gagosiangallery @delacruzcollection (at De la Cruz Collection)
