SEXTING~~~

ArtBinder recently released a color search tool that allows you to search for works by color. I’m not sure whether or not they meant to leave the API open, but I’m glad they did.
I made a little Processing sketch last night that allows you draw out squares that are replaced by ArtBinder images. It’s getting the color choices from a hidden source image behind the canvas. As you drag over a section, it picks up the colors you’re dragging over and queries the ArtBinder API for an image that features those colors.
The code for this is at my Github. There are two sketches there. This one that lets you drag out squares and another that draws out a grid of ArtBinder images.
Like most of my Processing sketches, it ain’t much, but it could develop into something cool.
Collectors choose to buy art based on their interest in the work itself, not whether it matches the color of their living room drapes, right? Not always, as Alexandra Chemla, the founder of ArtBinder — a digital platform for showing showing and selling art — knows well. The idea that art collectors, interior designers, and consultants would use a tool that lets them flip through thousands of artworks sorted by dominant color schemes inspired the newest tool added to ArtBinder, ColorSearch.
