might end up swapping some of the beads out for shiny ones but for now. My son
I have a doc where i put Persona's Featherman lore cause im. autistic, but in doing this i've learnt a lot about Akechi through Black Condor from Jetman (the super sentai that Featherman is based off).
Like, Where The Hell Did Grey Pigeon Come From?
Akechi takes a lot of inspiration from Black Condor, who is, directly taken from his wiki page, a “confrontational and obnoxious loner who hates being ordered around.” He's the bad boy archetype, he cheats and gambles and is a bit of a womanizer. also, he plays pool and loves jazz. I mean... fuck, Condor even comes back from the dead like Akechi does in 3rd semester, though it is admittedly entirely different means and wants, but That's Black Condors Influence!!!
And, In Base P5, you just have to assume Akechi is Black Falcon. He doesn't have a featherman costume or anything, all we have is what the game tells us. Black Falcon (In Neo Featherman Again) is established to be a traitor, and that's all we have to go off.
But they doubled down on the Black Condor-isms in Royal, only to make him GREY PIGEON? I mean, the Featherman Seeker game that Grey Pigeon comes from is directly referencing Akechi’s life, including Shido’s goons, and Wakaba Isshiki, and his eventual sacrifice. Who The Hell Is Grey Pigeon?
The pigeon part here is easy to decipher. Pigeons are well known for being abandoned once they no longer had a use, and nowadays are widely considered scum or parasites. And the archetype around Silver Rangers is the same as any other sixth ranger, theyre an outlier in some way and have a different goal from the rest of the team, which fits Akechi Fine.
But he isn't Silver Pigeon, he's Grey. At first i thought i was reading waaay to much into it and assumed this was for the naming scheme. Like, we're all normal colours and here comes akechi's fancy silver ass, but actually I think. I think it's a reference to Jetman again?
Black Condor had a long-term rival called Grey, whom he killed. Idk, i just. I think there's a parallel to be made here.
Wakaba's initial concepts are very interesting to me,, especially in regard to how many people hate the evil researcher Wakaba theory thing LMFAO. I'm not saying you have to like or believe it at ALL, I love Wakaba's final character. Her and Futaba's story is so sad and it killllls me, I just think it adds a whoole new level of complexity that people are just really weird about hating.
She still isn't doing too hot in the actual game, either! She was made to have a mental shutdown... through her palace.. which means her desires were, in fact, distorted.. and obviously that doesn't mean she's EVIL I'm just saying it really contextualised a lot, y'know?
Like this clearly went pretty far in development,,, there's a security level portrait that looks just like her, and it was meant to be used for the LAST palace, NOT Futaba's? She WAS researching cognitive pscience. And for a government agency no less, which means she had to have some form of undeniable evidence. How did she study that without human subjects? it's. literally human cognition.
I know this is like, a decade old point, but really; we don't talk about how the Featherman Seeker game's main antagonist, Osagiri, experiments on people, her name shares synonyms with Wakaba (幼い osanai & 若い wakai), and speaks the same as Wakaba in the JP version... enough at all!!
I think that's SUPER interesting, because she is also very much representing Yaldabaoth. Her final words are about how she doesn't believe that humans have a sense of justice, much like how Yaldabaoth thinks humans are fundamentally incapable of change.
And, from the wiki, her alias, Alya, is the name of the Theta Serpentis star (though I don't know if this holds true in the og JP ver). Like Serpentis suggests, it's represented by the snake, the same as Samael (Shido's shadow) and Yaldabaoth.
I don't really have any thoughts on her experimenting on Akechi, though. I think Osagiri experimenting on Grey Pigeon IS purposeful, but I think that's more Shido using Wakaba's research (Akechi's power was incomplete/it's thanks to [Shido's] efforts that he can use his full power), not Wakaba herself. In the end, Yaldabaoth was using Shido who was using Wakaba and THAT is Osagiri's character.
(Akechi, when talking to Shido, literally says "[Wakaba] wouldn't have had to die if she just complied." And we know she was probably his first kill, since she died a bit before the mental shutdowns started, according to Sae. Shido probably asked Wakaba to "collaborate," using Akechi to further her research and she said no, refused to hand her work over. Theres probably something to say here about Akechi literally being split in two, Robin Hood and Loki and forcing second awakenings, but smarter people have made posts about that before.)
(And, this with her inital concept is so.. Wakaba HERSELF forced Futaba to become a shut-in? Wakaba locked Futaba inside HERSELF? HERSELF? Why??? Because she was experimenting on Futaba's cognition? Like how they manipulated Sae to form a palace? Because she regretted giving birth to a child, knowing Futaba would slow down her research? Like the sphinx in Futaba's palace said? Because Wakaba knew Shido and his dogs would target Futaba, for Wakaba's research? Because, even in a universe where she let her morals go, she still loved her daughter???)
This is such a purposeful decision. This was a choice they decided to ADD on in ROYAL... after they already changed Wakaba's story, and removed her part in the final palace.
I just. I NEED to know if she was meant to be a final boss at some point, working for Shido or playing Maruki's role. I think, no matter what, she was probably just a puppet of Yaldabaoth - Something like Ichinose in Strikers, with how much P5S parallels p5. That seems the most likely to me!
trying to come up with designs for the featherman cast has stumped me because i think my ideal feather red truly is just adult tatsuya suou .. yeah all the persona leaders are red eagle-hawk coded but have u ever considered that all the persona leaders are just tatsuya coded? checkmate
