It bothers me how sexist Arthur is.
I don't understand Merthur. Their whole storyline is basically getting close every season & then at the start of the next season it's back to square 1. For 3 years Arthur crowned a servant Queen, knighted commoners, but couldn't elevate the position of the manservant who has stood by his side for so long as an official advisor? And Merlin couldn't reveal his secret in 3 years? That's how much he trusts him? That's friendship, Merlin still doing laundry after all this time? Merthur = 0 development.
I really wish that there was a scene in Series 4 or Series 5 where Arthur went to talk to Morgana. Sure, he had questioned her about "turning against him" before but that was in front of others. Before Arthur became king he had always said that things would be different when it was his turn to rule. He didn’t accept magic until his last moments before death, it sucks that Morgana never knew how he truly felt about magic.
I think the saddest part of the episode 'Lancelot du Lac' is that Arthur thinks Lancelot would actually do that to him, although he's one of the most honorable knights.
It also hurts to see Arthur bullying Merlin even in series 5 (just one example, calling him a coward before the big battle), after all he has done for Arthur. Children who watch this series should get the right message on how to behave properly…
The 'Arwen' moment in 'The Eye of The Phoenix' is so forced & nauseating. When Arthur says 'I'll come back' and Gwen says 'For me.' Yeah of course for you. Not at all to prove to his father he has what it takes to be King. Not at all to show his people he is brave and strong and true. Not at all to prove these things to himself. Yeah, he's totally going to come back for Gwen.
As much as I love Arwen, I wasn't as upset as I should be over Arthur's death since it means I could get my secondary Gwen ship: Gwen/Leon.
