It’s pretty obvious that women are underrepresented in film. Why is this so? Perhaps because there are very few women behind the scenes in the actual writing and production of the films. In fact, women have reached a six-year-low in representation in this industry. This is problematic because though the film and media industry is full of jobs and opportunity, the opportunity for women is low and the leadership for young women interested in a related career is nearly nonexistent. 98% of films include more male than female characters. We’re not asking for every movie to be all women casts, but, come on, can we have at least an even amount sometimes? Maybe a majority? Young women deserve to have leaders in this industry.
