Olivia Wilde, in a panel discussion called “State of Female Justice,” does an excellent job in illustrating the problem with women in film. Women often, as Wilde has in 39 of the 40 movies she has acted in, are cast in supporting roles. Wilde goes on to describe how unexciting this is and how great more diversity would be. She uses the example of an acting group she is in where they took the script of American Pie (wait with me) and did a reading where they reversed the gender roles. The men actors got very bored with their parts, realizing that being a “supporting” character isn’t so fun.
