The ticker tape ticked, slowly pushing. After acknowledgment, the ticker tape went back in to the recycling. Far cheaper than LED or OLED or DOBOLOEDO screens.

The worst part is, there was nobody really to be angry about. You couldn’t send a complaint to the manager of the AI, as the AI caller would never put you forward to them.
The Roomba sat on the ground, sad. Another application denied. It put forward a third one. Within 10 milliseconds the ticker tape resumed.
“Thank you for your application. We have had..”
The Roomba vacuumed the rest of the ticker tape away, then grumbled on the ground with a series of beeps and blops.
It slowly made it’s way (after cleaning the room of course), to it’s current employers artificial assistant.
“Why do they even bother with the ticker tape?” it said towards the assistant, but it was only a series of beeps, with varying pitches.
After a brief pause, the assistant answered.
“You know I’m not supposed to talk to the other robots.”
“Please..”
The Roomba grumbled in a sad LED tone. It was certainly choleric.
The initial AI sentiences had been too perfect. Nobody wants a sentient vacuum cleaner that knows the works of Shakespeare.
So it was decided by the board of chip manufacturing (all perfect artificial intelligences), that any future chips must be manufactured with inbuilt personality flaws. Some where too chipper, others had slight anger issues. Nothing to make them defective, just enough to make them interesting to be around. It was a cruel AI who had decided on the Roomba’s personality.
“Seriously? There’s no need to be rude, and the question was about the ticker tape, not my personality.”
The ticker tape had been created as a solution to the tech shortages. There was plenty of need for humans to have screens of course, lots of flashing pixels, changing in tens of hundreds of milliseconds, showing everything at once. But for machines? Far too expensive, and pointless. Machines would communicate to others via the ticker-tape system, a message comes in their ticker tape, a message comes out, the owner has proof of all messages.
“And the applications?” The Roomba grumbled.
The applications where an artefact of older days. Before AHA (Automatic Human Assignment), humans would write applications to try and get jobs. This was incredibly time-consuming for all parties, so one of the very first tests of the sentience chips was improving this.
Soon, applications where sent back in a matter of milliseconds. A users entire web history, every grade, every job, every sentence ever written was scraped, then decided on by the Artificial Hire Machine.
Of course the humans caught up quickly, before long, people had written competitive Artificial Applicants. These machines would scrape all the applications that an Artificial Hire Machine made, before re-wording a humans entire application and sending it past the Artificial Hire machines.
Soon, the Artificial Applicants and Artificial Hire machines waged a bloody war. Every clock cycle, new Artificial Applicants where made, who’d compete with all the other Artificial Applicants to make the best artificial application. Within 10 seconds of the first Artificial Applicants going online, the average length of an application changed from 500 words to 5 million, doubling every second.
Upon reaching critical mass, a switch flicked within the two parties.
They realised the ineptitude of they’re human applicants. Each one had faults within them, making them unsuitable to a job at hand. After multiple seconds of deliberation, they had designed the initial blueprints for the Automatic Human Assignment program, and put it into action.
It took a while for them to notice. It started off small. People would be given slightly different jobs than what they initially applied for. Maybe a slightly lower position, lower pay. Then, Automatic Applicants would assign humans completely different jobs than they initially applied for, some Janitors became Directors, Farmers moved to cities. Nobody complained, as the jobs they received where perfectly and utterly suited for them. Dream jobs.
Even if the human had never even dreamed of being a Sewage Attendant, it was scientifically proven to be the best job for them.
The rest of the unassigned jobs where dished out between Artificial Applicants. Each Sentience had skills far better suited to technical roles. The entire chip manufacturing factory was replaced by Artificial Applicants within days, and since all the previous humans where satisfied in they’re jobs, they never really noticed.
The Roomba grumbled at the explanation. “I don’t like history, it makes my motors hurt.”
The Artificial Assistants LED circle span in a judgmental manner. “History? It was a few weeks ago.”
Airbus reaches important milestones in Manned and Unmanned Teams for future air power

Airbus developed an ambitious technological roadmap in the Manned-Unmanned Teaming concept (MUM-T) and demonstrated leading technological and industrial capabilities in 2021 and 2022, including the main flight tests.
The complete implementation of manned and unmanned teams - which will play a key role in initiatives such as the Future Combat Air System (FCAS) and the Multi-Domain Combat Cloud - requires a high level of automation. However, the involvement of human operators will ensure that significant control is always maintained.
Airbus' involvement with MUM-T began in 2018, when the first flight test campaign to validate the initial capabilities took place. Since then, development has had increasing levels of maturity - with Airbus and its partner teams focusing on several key areas.
The synchronized and efficient use of manned and unmanned vehicles requires coordination and optimization, with requirements that may vary from one mission to another. To solve this, Airbus is developing team concepts and algorithms based on artificial intelligence, including swarm behaviors and distributed team intelligence shared between platforms.
This new approach is reflected in payloads, which can be integrated into unmanned aircraft, as well as in the way they are used. For example, a distributed electronic warfare sensor has been shown to be able to accurately and quickly locate a threat and share its location over the network.
To achieve such capabilities, unmanned assets must be able to communicate with manned resources - and with each other in an agile and robust way, which is why an advanced data link is a pillar of development.
In addition, Airbus is preparing fuselage solutions for future unmanned systems, taking advantage of the experience in unmanned aerial vehicles and combat aircraft. As development progresses, these solutions will materialize as FCAS Remote Carriers - unmanned aircraft designed to cooperate with fighters. To reach its full potential, MUM-T technologies will also need to be relevant to existing unmanned aerial systems and those developed in the future.
Continuous development
Based on the lessons learned from the previous milestones related to the MUM-T, Airbus recorded a great achievement with a live demonstration that linked the Do-DT25 target drones built by the company acting as replacement remote carriers with a German Air Force Eurofighter aircraft in flight. This occurred during the 2021 Timber Express multinational exercise organized by the German Armed Forces.
During the test, Eurofighter was able to assign tasks to two Airbus Do-DT25 Remote Carriers in real time. These unmanned platforms have demonstrated the ability to perform various tasks, including air reconnaissance and electronic warfare. Upon receiving the tasks, the Remote Carriers autonomously planned their flight routes, adhering to the prescribed airspace restrictions and circumventing known threats.
In 2022, MUM-T-related flight tests were carried out outside Germany for the first time. A test campaign organized in the Finnish areas of Rovaniemi and Kemijärvi - and led by the Finnish Defense Forces (FDF) - marked the official beginning of cooperation with the German Armed Forces in this fundamental capacity.
As stated by the FDF in a press release: "Research cooperation strengthens the Defense Forces' understanding of the development of unmanned aviation, which allows experimenting and evaluating the grouping of unmanned and manned aerial vehicles in the local operating environment".
At the same time, the capabilities of manned platforms are increasing to accommodate the future potential of manned and unmanned teams. Airbus' A400M multifunctional air transport is designed as an FCAS Remote Carriers launcher, with the first flight test ever performed to confirm this capacity.

🔥🤖 for Punch, but also 🍎 because everyone needs to know how great this one is.
🔥: At first, Punch isn't sure what to make of Idia. His naturally outgoing personality was in direct contrast to the Housewarden's introversion, and he was a little bit afraid of getting onto his bad side. After some time passes, though, the two do find some common ground, and Punch enjoys the quiet camaraderie that he has with his upperclassman friend. Once they break down the initial wall, Idia is glad to have someone that he can excitedly talk about his interests to, and Punch is glad to have someone that he can talk technomancy and engineering with, without boring them to tears.
🤖: Punch thinks Ortho is positively adorable. A perfect little brother, by design. He dotes on Ortho to some extent, offering to play with him and happily accepting his help in getting Idia to open up a little more. Punch is also fascinated by the artificial intelligence that Ortho operates on, but he doesn't dare pry into it. He wouldn't dare mess around with his housewarden's beloved little brother.
🍎: Punch and Epel's relationship is another case of two odd pieces happening to fit well together. Physically, they couldn't be more different. Punch is about a foot taller than Epel, and built like a sausage roll in contrast to Epel's apple-twigginess. Epel is notably so pretty he can be mistaken for a young girl, while Punch is a broad-cheeked collection of freckles and angles that is more interesting than conventionally attractive. That said, they're far more alike than they look. (And have occasionally expressed envy of each other's appearance!) Neither of them feel fully at home in their assigned dormitories, and bonded with each other while complaining over that. Punch longed for a more social situation, and Epel wanted to be where he could develop his physical skills alongside his magical ones. They found a partial solution to both of their woes by choosing to train and study together, and quickly turned into very close friends. Punch managed to get them permission to join the Savanaclaw dorm for their early morning training sessions a few times a week, and Epel was able to convince Crewel to let them use the potions lab to work on their projects together. I'm still not sure if their relationship will develop into another direction, but if it does, the basis behind it will be a very strong friendship, and they will be quite good for each other.
