liars could see each other from miles. whether it be the engineering built to identify even the smallest of micro-expression, or the attitude of anyone that came with speaking between their teeth. little or big. a tilt of their head, how shows seemed to stretch the truth very well into lie more quickly than people did to themselves. for entertainment, maybe? what was entertaining about that?

watching motions and attitudes shift, drastic gestures and colourful language that did not quite compute to their understanding.

no here's the problem. taro knows they're a robot. they know that, as a machine, they basically can't die without all of their circuitry being fully destroyed. they're like YES self preservation important but also i could learn so much and i can always just recover. it does not help that they cannot feel anything, so they can't feel fear; and pain doesn't come across to them the same as it does with human--there's no permanent mental trauma. it simply briefly is, then fades, and is gone. it doesn't linger.

❝ you first, kid. ❞ all things considered, he appears to find the question amusing, on some level. folks didn't just - speak, to conquest. they didn't - ask him things. casually, no less.

❝ it's the mustache, isn't it? that throwing you off? ❞ wow. grandpa had jokes, apparently. taro doesn't laugh. that's to be expected, seeing as conquest knows well this is no living, breathing organism. they've got no scent, no real sense of sentience. was this anyone else, they'd likely find it off putting.

conquest feels no such fear. instead, a metal finger comes to the center of taro's forehead, and - they're flicked unceremoniously, leaving the viltrumite shocked by the very nature of their durability. strong, heavy. they budge, ( forcibly ), though not without leaving a trail in the concrete where they'd originally been stood. ❝ a fight. ❞ comes late explanation, ❝ seem like a bruiser yourself, little rat. care to indulge an old man? ❞

alarm bells. code running wild with alert, analysis, every protocol and directive shifting to preservation. yet contradicting with the ever growing need to learn. to indulge in their own curiosities. what more could have as much knowledge as a brawler. to learn the skills, the fight, the outer shell of a universe they had yet seen from anywhere but a speck.

it is the running code that prevents them from replying immediately, or at all. programs, simulations, everything all at once. they weren't used to threats like this, they had never seen one this close. they didn't express, no emotions crossed over an empty face--glass eyes see-through in their transparency of lack. faux emotions not yet processed to even try to pretend. was it worth it, yet?

the one motion that came was a narrowing of their eyes, staring up at the finger, at the gauntlet. through it, studying it's mechanisms. the flick was barely felt; a twitch in their platings throughout their body, rustling then stabilizing. what may have been left was a slight crack--tiny drips of blue attempting to leak through, yet not quite big enough.

pain, was there, but it did not come across; it faded as soon as soon as artificial nervous system had played back.

" oh. " the first thing they said in a while, lifting a gloved hand up, hovering over the crack like a doll realizing it had not quite shattered yet.

" what kinda fight. with the scar. the mustache is weird, but not what i'm looking at. it is ugly, though. "

it was out of nowhere, really. yet taro expected a decent response. they didn't think bart would just drop them out of nowhere just because they decided to speak something they may as well be true. they weren't engineered by people doing good--the government wasn't ever that efficient at that; even if they were trying to be. a machine designed to take people like their good friend bart allen down. anyone down. a weapon, a tool. where was the good in engineered complacency. in a nuclear bomb that happened to have human-like behavior.

staring out, into the sky, into the sun. lens-like eyes constricting and expanding as they flicked through spectrums. watched the waves of solar flares from a speck on a minuscule little planet. each motion and movement, from gamma to microwave.

how to exactly...even as they listened to music, watched dance and saw people move and groove--whatever that meant--they still found questions running through their systems like a glitch that couldn't quite be resolved; no matter how many times they diagnosed. it didn't click, didn't match. they could mimic understanding, yet databases of knowledge and they still couldn't find a real meaning in it.

maybe it was that they never tried to really participate, or actively look out for it. music came and went, there were more important things for them to try and understand. melodies that ended as soon as they began? they didn't seem all that important. here, anyway, people expressed such great emotion over it.

perhaps that was the issue. if they could feel, they would understand. if only. for now, all they could do was pretend. pretend and talk to those that clearly understood more than them.

" it was a somewhat stark contrast to the usual shyer attitude. it was flat, blank. they'd talked to satoru enough, they've gauged how he--peculiar as he was--reacted to their usual attitude. it was time to shift the gears. it was often the limitation that came with people that they couldn't quite use as full blown resources. get all one needed, then test the strain of that trust.

it was a learning experience, either way. one they could benefit from--gain from.

it comes up a lot, but it's bound to happen really, with taro's need to learn. taro does often come up with the question of why the most dangerous things often have the best information for them to learn. villains, people that are dangerous or powerful. things that are full of obstacles. how often are those things full of useful information for them. it's less that they want to get themself into danger, and more that taro literally can't help themself but to put themself into situations that merit danger. they need to learn. their directives force them to put themselves into scenarios where they learn the most information the fastest.

taro's priorities will always lay in what will give them the most information--and the most valuable of it. it's part of why they so often slip into a more neutral or even antagonistic role.

they don't mean to be evil, bad, or anything...it's just that sometimes they can't help themself. they will not allow an opportunity to pass them, even if it risks themself or others.

PARENTS: taro has no parents. they were grown and assembled in a black budget lab by the deo...so. the government? the sponsors that helped pay for it? other partners involved? lots of possible parents, none that taro wants to consider or ever see again, until their current directive has concluded.
