So far for me it’s been the biggest disappointment of this year. I could get into the story and progression problems, but that involves jumping over the visual hurdle, which I just can’t. The 97′ series had a very low budget, and still is very visually appealing despite a lot of the workarounds that needed to be used to avoid spending too much on animation (and at the very least actually managed to show off the conclusion as it was meant to be unlike NGE). In this case you’ve got more resources and a team that has no idea what to do with them. The director makes some of the least sense as his credentials are mostly with slice of life and comedy material. He’s not fit to be working on this series if he can’t get the tone right and turn the whole thing into an obnoxious action show. Berserk may seem like that on the outside, but the violence and carnage is really only consequential of the environment.
