Hi! So I would like to ask for a professional seamstress to make me a Christine dress. I see you understand a lot of the subject, so do you think that is possible? I mean there are so many details... I just dream of having one of her beautiful dresses haha

It’s definitely possible. Have you seen the work of enchantedseastudio and viscountess? Beautiful, picture perfect, textured and highly detailed costumes.

I think what you need to take into account is that:

1. it will cost a pretty penny. Many Christine costumes takes a lot of fabric, a lot of trims, a lot of materials in general. The bodices are often corseted and needs snug, fitted tailoring. The skirts are layers upon layers. Only the dressing gown is a somewhat easier costume to recreate, in terms of amount of materials and in fit (hours). 

2. You would need to decide on exactly what version you’d like recreated, and gather as many reference photos as possible. This will help a person who may not know the costumes by heart, especially when it comes to for example the back of the costume, or the silhouette, or specific trims. 

3. You should also decide if you provide the materials, or if the seamstress will pick them for you. They might get a better deal, while you might be able to pick a better match. Or not. This is up to you, but can contribute greatly to the finished look.

And I totally understand the need of owning one of her beautiful dresses!!

Who on tumblr sells replica phantom costumes because I can't find the person that I found through your blog a while ago (I think it's a woman who does it and she has a separate website off tumblr to sell costumes)

You've posted some wonderful advice on how to start making costumes and I really appreciate it. But what about if you already know how to make costumes and would like to do it for a living? Where do you start? How do you network? Are people more likely to hire you if you get a degree? Will getting a BFA in fashion design help you get work as a costumer?

I think the people to ask is shipwreckdsiren or viscountess, who’s actually doing what I can only theorize about. I only meddle with sewing in my spare time, so I just don’t feel qualified to give any advices. Thank you SO much for the trust and the nice words, though!
