All done! I am super pleased with this one. I’m also really glad to make the full, final reveal. Keeping the other side of this a secret for this long was killing me! Do y'all like it? If you haven’t, go to Tumblr and read Mistletoe Manor where the inspiration for this came from. I need to pick the next couple, I’m thinking Jaehyun bc I haven’t painted him yet.

On a technical note, this was my first time stretching my watercolor paper. I have to say I love how much easier it was to paint on. Now to see if I can get those staples out or if I have to trim that edge off.

I had to pause on his face bc I needed to get the values of his clothes in. This is one thing I've found with painting people that isn't often addressed: value. Particularly if you're someone who works in sections, you've got to get things about 1/2 way, then get the clothes in or the hair depending on the subject. What you thought had enough contrast to look right probably doesn't. That's how I'm feeling about his face right now but I know I can easily fix it without it getting muddy or overworked. I have more progress than this but I’m trying to keep the whole composition a secret until it’s done 😁

As I’ve said before, this is a fan-piece from a fanfic series written by two of my Tumblr humans. Next up will be one that is there creation of the other half…not sure which one though, maybe Daehyun? Though going with Jaehyun the gardener would allow me some leeway.

For process info, this is currently being painted on a stretched piece of paper, so it got soaked in cold water and stapled to a piece of wood. I’ve never done this before so we’ll see. So far, it’s not warping at all but I’m unsure how to get it off. As Mr. Baumgartner says, staples are the worst. It’s Fabriano hot press paper, Mijello watercolor, Prismacolor pen, and Col-Erase pencil.
