8. What's an old project idea that you've lost interest in
alright so....i was gonna say this comic (wip pics below) --
-- but as I uploaded it and wrote the ALT text, I realised I haven't lost interest at all... This one specifically was inspired by this tweet sent to me by @chompingonuggets btw (shout AJ we love AJ's art in this house).
I promise to revisit this one day especailly as I still have an idea for a (hopefully) funny ending featuring future/current day phyuri... 👀 but it's just a lot to sort out rn and I have 😈 other phyuri ideas 😈 i wanna finish first :]
Honestly, I rarely lose interest in any of my art projects, it's more that I'm just bouncing between multiple projects and ended up Overwhelmed by how many ideas I have…especially the ones surrounding drawing d&p as lesbians 😔 what problem to have i know...💔 (ok i'll answer other questions (15 and 30) under the cut just so these messy gals can shine on their own without the post being too long lol).
15. *Where* do you draw
These days I'm usually drawing on our sofa in our living room as that way I can watch stuff on the telly at the same time :3 but sometimes I get too sleepy and pass out and my partner walks in on me like this:
i fr really need a proper drawing board or somethin to put my ipad on so i'm not fucking up my back/neck/shoulders/posture oh no
30. What piece of yours do you think is underrated
I'm not sure I can think of a specific example as I'm very grateful for any like/reblog/rt/comment/reply/reaction towards any of my art/comics... but I will admit it can be disheartening when I spend hours/days on something non-phanart related (which, granted, is rare at the moment if you look at my art tag) or an animation (my most recent one being this phil birthday video) and they barely get as much engagement as my other pieces 💔
I can generally get too obsessed over the number of likes/reblogs/comments/replies etc on my art, subsequently comparing that number to what other artists' art gets, and then compare my skills to other artists - which sucks!!! because so many of them I admire, am inspired by and have even been lucky enough to bond with/befriend 🥺🫶✨
I think overall I just really love getting rbs/comments/replies/messages over likes when it comes to engagement because it's a wonderful opportunity for me see what people think about my art and how it makes them feel - especially as someone who struggles with most social interactions 1:1 / in group chats / IRL. Being able to connect with people like that through my artistic endeavours will be always be something I cherish and it ultimately outweighs any feeling I may sometimes have around my art being 'underrated' or w/e hehe 🥰
I really am grateful for everything that comes my way, be it a keyboard-smash reaction, a funny meme/reaction image on twitter, a lil comment in the tags of a reblog or a wholesome [anon] message 🥹 I'd even be grateful for any well-meaning constructive criticism directed my way because that's just a chance for me to grow as an artist/writer! 💪✨ I do fr feel like a broken overly sentimental record but aahh I can't express how thankful I am to be here, to be able to make art that's a joy/rewarding to make and to have people who like what I love making 💖💖💖
27. Do you warm up before getting to the good stuff? If so, what is it you draw to warm up with
Naw I'm so excited to draw my ideas I end up just jumping into every drawing right away lol I know there are like specific things people do to warm up (like drawing lines/circles/cubes) but honestly that just feels like busy work to me haha :')
Every time I've told myself 'this is just gonna be a warm up' I end up getting either distracted or like making it into something I actually wanna draw and spending hours on it haha. I'm pretty sure this mini phyuri comic art was originally meant to be a 'warm up' but instead I got obsessed with Dani's expression in the third panel (until I was happy with it) ....and then struggling rly hard to get the last panel to look right - the piece isn't my best work but it was still fun to draw/finish!
here's the timelapse (cw: flashing/flickering frames) of that third panel I mentioned if you're interested!
I've been really enjoying turning the sketch layer into the line art layer by erasing/redrawing the lines... sometimes I keep everything on one/two layers too to avoid overcomplicating it! It feels so similar to like... moulding a proper sculpture out of clay :)
While I wouldn't necessarily call this a 'warm up', I do sometimes sketch stuff out on sticky notes/paper [i rambled about about this here] and then take a photo of it and import that into procreate. Sometimes a pencil/pen on paper just feels more freeing than drawing on my iPad straight away, like I don't have to worry about it being perfect? I generally find the process of taking a complete mess of lines and shapes and transforming them into something clearer very fascinating and rewarding!
Overall, most of my art I have posted is the end result of hours of me desperately trying my best (over and over again) to get some vivid mental image out of my brain and onto the canvas :') I could probably figure out a way to work smarter not harder but honestly sometimes chaos is FUN >:)
12. Easiest part of body to draw
Probably heads/faces to be honest - I can... mostly draw Dan and Phil's from muscle memory alone in my current style... although I still feel like it can be inconsistent from piece to piece at times :(
If I'm ever drawing someone new (like for a commission) I love analysing the reference images and slowly building up what makes their head/face unique to them :3 Does require a bit of finessing/trial-and-error during the drawing process but it's a lot of fun once I get to the stage I'm happy with it!
6. Anything that might inspire you subconsciously
Probably any cartoon/animated show out there that I've watched... I think most recently The Owl House had a huuuge impact on how I drew expressions without me realising it did until recently. It is a very beautifully animated show and I love all the character designs so much!
I'm 90% sure I started drawing certain mouths like this 'duck' one for phil (and sometimes dan) in this doodle i drew for twitter (below) because of the main character Luz's mouth shape!
I just find that lil curved bit so cute and it feels perfect for D&P's cartoony expressions - especially Phil's little natural smirk :3
