Haroon Mirza and Jack Jelfs were the joint recipients of the COLLIDE International Award, a two-month artistic residency at CERN, followed by a one-month residency at FACT Liverpool. They invited Elijah and GAIKA to CERN to conceive and create The Wave Epoch as a special one-off improvisation. And they were here today, and that is the selfie of the moment with arts@CERN once we arrived at the office.

The winner of the COLLIDE International Award, a new collaboration between CERN and FACT1 – was granted today to the South Korean artist, Yunchul Kim. Honorary Mentions were also awarded to Mexican artist, Julieta Aranda, and UK artist James Bridle.

I will be visiting CMS today! Special thanks to Ariane Koek and Arts@CERN for facilitating the visit. he Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) is a general-purpose detector at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). It is designed to investigate a wide range of physics, including the search for the Higgs boson, extra dimensions, and particles that could make up dark matter. Although it has the same scientific goals as the ATLAS experiment, it uses different technical solutions and a different magnet-system design.
Underground LHC particle detector visits this week!
I am excited to say that I will be visiting two of the LHC particle detectors later this week. Special thanks to the Arts@CERN program for allowing me to be part of the CMS visit. Also a shout out to Steve Goldfarb for his general awesomeness and putting me on the list for an ATLAS visit. ...more to follow later this week and maybe some photos next week.
