Join us to celebrate Art's 1,000,053rd Birthday! We will be celebrating with a night of music by adventurous local musicians, plus CAKE. The party will be broadcast live on CFRC 101.9fm! Featuring local luminaries Treebot, Pictogram, Frankenstorm & Konig.
Art's Birthday is an annual event first proposed in 1963 by French artist Robert Filliou. As he tells it, 1,000,000 years ago, there was no art. But one day, on the 17th of January to be precise, Art was born. According to Filliou, it happened when someone dropped a dry sponge into a bucket of water: "Modest beginnings, but look at us now!"
Filliou proposed a public holiday to celebrate the presence of art in our lives. In recent years, the idea has been taken up by a loose network of artists and friends around the world. Each year the Eternal Network evolves to include new partners - working with the ideas of exchange and telecommunications-art.

Frankenstorm
Melanie Joslin (vocals + electric guitar) and Greg Watson (analogue synthesizer + combo organ). Having performed together in the late '90s in Lustre, they have recently joined forces again, blending influences from inner and outer space.
Pictogram
"monastery jass, space & trine, child runs the voodoo sound, ice cap supreme, lady sings the hues, giant shweppes, sun ship, pharaoh chatter, the reel mccoy shrine, elfin bones, saturn wreckers, disco on the moon, 2016: a trace oddity"
Treebot
Appearing on Earth with no knowledge of itself or where it came from, the Treebot knew only of its purpose: To assume the appearance of the dominant life form & impart wisdom to lower life forms through sound, music & emotion.
