Our most emotionally & spiritually rewarding project has been The Remedy Project: The Arts Of Healing. This mixtape series honors those on the forefront of our medical industry and features musical collaborations between Philly Jazz artists, healthcare workers & medical professionals. This photo presents The Sound Mind Ensemble: an all star affair led by arranger/conductor Keith DeStefano and featuring sax men, Odean Pope, Victor North & Josh Lee, as well as brass players, Nick Lombardelli & Stan Slotter. They recorded Blood Count, a hauntingly beautiful song written by Duke Ellington’s collaborator, Billy Strayhorn - who is believed to have written the song on his death bed. In 2018, we released a project that paid tribute to our healthcare workers and medical professionals, by creating new music with them. Some of the Philadelphia Jazz artists participating included Barbara Montgomery, Tony TNT Jones, Victor North, Odean Pope, Adam Faulk, Keith DeStefano, Kimpedro Too and others. At the time, we had no idea what was to come, but as we collaborated with them, knew that we were doing something special. Today, our national healthcare infrastructure, in crisis, once again placing our dedicated community of healthcare workers and medical professionals in both harm's way, but also in emotionally difficult circumstances. The Remedy Project: The Arts Of Healing was a major artistic and emotional accomplishment for the Philadelphia Jazz Project. This mixtape series features musical collaborations between Philly Jazz artists, healthcare workers & medical professionals. It's available as a FREE download and features bassist and composer Keith DeStefano's re-interpretation of Billy Strayhorn's classic, Blood Count which was believed to be written on his death bed.
