2021.03.12 • Work in progress Drawing has always been my inner narrative vocabulary since I have hold a pen in my hand. I was about two years old. At that time of my life, I saw my dad paint and draw for him self quite often. Doing just so for his own pleasure. Growing up in Geneva, I sensed his infinite pleasure doing art with his heart, only during his little free time. Painting was somehow his mind liberation. When I was child, he was still a watchmaker working around the clock in the swiss industry to sustain his new family that was growing. Financial responsibility, has a father, a spouse shared with my mam as a housewife. Basic low middle class family. A surround sort of happiness I recon. Though, the income as a watchmaker was low, life was good. My brother was just born two and a half years after me and life was spanning in the 70's. My dad taught me practically nothing about the little he knew of painting or drawing, but I observed. I stand by him. I just draw and draw. My own little inner world. I was a day dreamer all along my childhood. I recorded things in my mind : atmospheres and sounds, sightseeings, sceneries. And I draw. I have loved that calmness my dad had in his heart while painting. So in that matter, he was a sort of pride I wanted to match since I was 4 years old. I probably sensed this hidden artistic path he never really had the courage to take for granted. His return from his 4 years living in New-York in-between 1965 and 1969 was still hugely imprinted in his heart. Blessing memories for him. The best time of his life, has he always told me. That is where he learned photography, super 8 film, painting. I surely always saw that painting he made of N-Y hanging in our home. That was freedom for him. Then, when the pressure of the family had him caught in a corner, I never really saw him paint or draw ever again. Lost dream I guess. I am a dad of three boys now, and I see fatherhood as an openess to open masculine vulnerabilities and learn from it. It is a narrative Art form. • • 2021 • Art work by #sebastienguenot • #imaginarydrawing #blackandwhiteart #dessincontemporain #artsurpapier #artonpaper #contemporarydrawing (at Romainmôtier) https://www.instagram.com/p/CMUNKZTBXk0/?igshid=mfdyese1fv2b
2021.03.10 • I always have a moleskin notebook with me were ever I go. I started that principle of drawing on it what ever my inner world sees while observing the utter world surrounding me. I am hugely writing down every intuitive thing that comes to my mind, my heart. As well as it serves recording my senses by hand. My poetry comes by drawing images that in turn inspire some narrative text. It is all intuitive. Serendipity. I seek, I found. As simple as that. Listening by seeing has become my normal state of creativity since I started that moleskin notebook practice in 2005. I have since that year filed up about 20 of them just about the end of 2020. Oh wired isn't ? Anyhow, It has become my inner map. Through it, as I dyslexic, I find the way to my little expansive room. My route, my journey into my graphic journal, as I name it. • • #moleskine notebook / / 2021 • Art work by Sébastien Guenot • • • • • #imaginarydrawing #blackandwhiteart #dessincontemporain #artsurpapier #artonpaper #contemporarydrawing #素描 #sebastienguenot (at Romainmôtier) https://www.instagram.com/p/CMPck23nDin/?igshid=19amxtlwjxtjm
2021.02.21 • Winter is on its way to an end in just a glimpse of a month. Days have been in a thick density this winter. Time just flies by like a snow flakes melting down on a warm sunny ground. I honestly don't see it passing through. Anyhow, drawing and writing have been keeping me super busy. It felt like traveling into other inner spaces that felt pretty much like home to me. Like being on the edge of two worlds that I can truly observe, where life is as holistic as a quite known whole. An introspective loving womb that I felt pretty comfortable growing in. I mean artistically indeed. Exploring even more unknown inner territories, seeking for my beloved serendipity. So I got this deep artistic inspiration going profoundly hearted. Mysterious ways. Something rooted from what I call my secroforest studio room. These past January and February days I have found intuitive writing/drawing a new experience. A new form of expression that comes out of my truest narrative dreams, mixed with some of my very own experiences coming from my living life as a man, spouse, dad, artist...very compelling. Indeed, some new projects of my own Art are nicely coming along lately. A book, an exposition project, and some new artistic personal expressions that I will shape up this 2021 year. Thrilled. As I have more time to concentrate on my Art lately, all these new projects will sort of mark up a new stone mile in my life and artistic journey. As a matter of fact, that covid crisis has impacted quite deeply the way the cultural swiss world I am usually working with, as a theater and museum scenographer as well as a graphic designer/artist, and commissioned work is putted down it in quite a critical way. So I take this opportunity to totally change my swing and go deeper inside my own wing. Quite love that switch as it got some reborn feelings and new energy. Just like when I am in the forest seeing imaginary figures in trees, stones, branches and leafs... or is it ? • • Mother stoneleaf / / 2021 • Art work by Sébastien Guenot • • • • • #imaginarydrawing #blackandwhiteart #dessincontemporain #artsurpapier #artonpaper #workonpaper #contemporarydrawing #素描 #sebastienguenot https://www.instagram.com/p/CLklAEXB5LW/?igshid=sv6mh4u7673b
⭕️ I flow the curving lines of my inner hollow, it tells me to bow like a crow, fly like an arrow, so I follow. ⭕️ . . . Two weeks ago, I was with my dear friend Lara Buffard (@blablabla_on_the_moon) and Lilian Frei (@lilian_frei) whom curated this residency for an artistic project of her : "give me five" at #casasciaredo in Ticino, Switzerland. Both are deep experienced performance artists and I have had the profound chance to discuss and learn about there Arts, visions and practices. They are very singular individuals full of there beautiful natural beings. Of course, that leaded me to explore performance too, like that ravenman I am, covered with some mystical black blue darken fathers. Often in my own dreams, I could take off to some alpine mountains around. It made me understand the importance of narrative intuition as a whole play. As much as I can feel it, drawing is such an act of inner narrative expression. Performing my Art can become a true hearted act of utter out coming self, my drawing ephemeral lines as life. This residency made me feel a profound will to explore more of this artistic practice in 2021. I have felt blissful these days. My free inner gates of expression found in my own Art are a link to connect more with the visible and especially the invisible. The one I have perceived so much since childhood. A sort of mystic envision that can be transmuted into a graphic Art language of my own. So let's see what can bring me that call next year ! I am so thankful to have shared such a precious time drawing this fresco with Lara, in 4 hands, two hearts, emphasized by Georgette's spirit that I could sens all along that inspiring time in her studio house. Being able to draw in her studio was an honor. May this new light winter circle be a new gate of discovery as the north wind I love so much rises to blow with all its soul in my childhood Jura mountains ! • • Fresco / / 2020 • Art work by Lara Buffard and Sébastien Guenot • • • • • #imaginarydrawing #blackandwhiteart #dessincontemporain #artsurpapier #artonpaper #workonpaper #contemporarydrawing #素描 #poetry #poesie #sebastienguenot (at Lugano, Switzerland) https://www.instagram.com/p/CJUCGc8BoCE/?igshid=o4sva16iedjq
⭕️ You are the spark that lights up my sights in the most darkened space of that known enlarged hall, a circled time coming from a very old call, I am at dawn dancing naked with the whole. ⭕️ . . . Winter is here. Finally here. Happy solstice folks ! Yes, my lovely annual time of all vibrates its multiple doors since I am that one human light. A week from now, I was coming back home from #casasciaredo, in Ticino Switzerland, where I have spent a beautiful human artistic time with two beautiful souls. Indeed, I was invited by my dear friend Lara Buffard (the performance artist @blablabla_on_the_moon) to spent a view days with her good friend Lilian Frei (the performance artist @lilian_frei) whom curated this artistic residency, for an artistic project of her : "give me five". These three days where for me like a golden circle interlaced in dialogues and walks, history, art, philosophy and spirituality, and most of all; true good friendship and chimney dancing warm fire. What a discovery for me ! This house is field of the creator's deep spirit. A beautiful little functional architecture imagined in the modern Bauhaus mouvement of the 1920's. Georgette Klein was an extraordinary woman : Doctor of german philology, violinist, author of diaries, textile artist, actor-director of marionette-plays, sculptor, writer, designer, architect, gardener, philosopher. She imagined this illuminated cubic space on the little hill next to the church of Barbengo for her own use. However a more detailed analysis of her life and work has revealed to us three a lot more : she was a personality with never ending energy, continuously searching for new conclusions, trying daily to develop artistic work as well as her spiritual vision. I have deeply felt connected by that vision too. And so I have let it follow my own call, star, vision...shared with similar souls. Do you have experienced that too once in your life time ? • • Face stone / / 2020 • Art work by Sébastien Guenot • • • • • #imaginarydrawing #blackandwhiteart #dessincontemporain #artsurpapier #artonpaper #workonpaper #contemporarydrawing #素描 #poetry #poesie #sebastienguenot (at Lugano, Switzerland) https://www.instagram.com/p/CJD-M3rhjHe/?igshid=1vlbg6tqge1x0
⭕️ As the circle of my life draws the line of a time passed by so many sublime, I know it is now I will have to walk through the white glimpse that makes all thing pimps, flips, flaps, as the black crow wings told me to make my new fly go over that totem top evergreen giant tree of my nordic child infinite seed. ⭕️ . . . Winter is coming ! These days are my ever favorite powerful and beautiful moments of all time, always. As far as I was a very small child, winter runs in my veins like no other season. As a son of a nordic highland black forests swiss area, white winter is imprinted in my soul. As soon as winter arrives my inner spirit arise. My blood runs circle all over the year to welcome that time of the year that my heart wait and vibes for a deep and profound love. As all is driven by the smell of the crispy air, the sound of crushed snow, the sights of the proud giants conifers spruces emerging from all vegetal kingdom, and the obscure beautiful twilights and nights contrasted by the milliards of stars making all bright and sublime. My spirit is a winter one. It drives my sens to the transhumance of my wild oneness. Spruce trees have been my brothers and sisters since childhood, climbing on top of them where ravens and crows are waiting. Hiding underneath there branches that makes natural tipis. Talking to them about my deep inner believes. Touching there rough skins and holding there beautiful spiral seeds in my hands from my heart. They echoes my speaking, they listen my voice, they have a language I can understand. I see faces in there straight vertical trunk, totems of what my inner eyes connect. My soul. They have always been there to make me grow higher, as best friends do. That is why I draw them by heart, in my imaginary sight, as totems whom engage me with many faces. Secretly. So today I unveiled that secret and share it. Open your mind and heart...observe...closer...don't search, just find. Do you foresee them ? • • Sister spruce / / 2020 • Art work by Sébastien Guenot • • • • • #imaginarydrawing #blackandwhiteart #dessincontemporain #artsurpapier #artonpaper #workonpaper #contemporarydrawing #素描 #poetry #poesie #sebastienguenot (at Romainmôtier) https://www.instagram.com/p/CIauFNIBhI6/?igshid=1rfopde4xlogt
