Here is Abby's story: I am sharing a picture of my rescue dog Abby. She was rescued from a hoarding situation where she was one of over 75 dogs in a house with no running water. She had never been outside, never new love, never had steady meals and she was pregnant. I am one of the rescue volunteers involved in this rescue. When I brought her home to foster I thought she as a safe bet, no way I would fall in love with a little doxie mix. I was so wrong! I helped her delivered her 2 puppies in my bathroom with a vet on standby but it went well. She is a great Mommy. When her pups were adopted she was heartbroken and when people came to meet her she was terrified. I could not rehome her, even thought that was my goal by fostering her. She is now my sweet baby. Our bond is incredible. And she is mother to every young dog (and cat) I foster. She is an incredible dog and I am so fortunate that she came into my life. Thank you for reading Abby's story. Hooch • New private commission piece • 18x24" on paper About Hooch: Hooch is an 8-year old, senior boy who was rescued through Unchained New York’s community outreach program. Hooch was living outside in a garbage filled pen when we received a call asking for medical help. Hooch had suffered a bit wound to his leg, but what was more alarming was the tennis ball sized mass growing on his elbow. We immediately brought him to the vet, where the bite wound was addressed and his tumor biopsied. The results came back as cancer – sarcoma. Due to the location of the tumor, Hooch would need long-term recovery indoors, and we were able to secure Hooch’s surrender to our care. We had his tumor removed, and Hooch had to visit the vet on a daily basis – now he is a healthy, happy boy. Hooch was adopted by UCNY co-founder and his foster, who immediately fell in love with this laughable boy. Hooch now LOVES his life, having two canine brothers of his own. We have yet to meet a dog more grateful than Hooch – waking up every morning, rolling around on the blankets in bed giving smiles and snorts of contentment. And, Hooch is a champ when it comes to sharing the house with other canine fosters.

What’s so bad about a Puppy Mill?

When someone buys a puppy or kitten from a pet store, they’re unknowingly supporting Puppy Mills, which are large-scale breeding operations that put profit ahead of animal welfare. Female breeding dogs are forced to produce litter after litter until they can no longer breed—at which point they risk destruction.  Many puppy mills dogs have never been out of their cages, have never felt grass under their feet—never been hugged in a way that makes them know that they’re cared for. By saying NO to a pet store pet, you’re saying NO to animal cruelty.
