One For The Girls / accepting
16. Have you ever compromised your health for the sake of becoming more “beautiful”?
The farthest I’ve ever gone in true compromise is wearing shoes and some clothes that are too small in my videos. I once wore a pair of pants that were two sizes too small, but thankfully I was sitting down in most of the scenes with them. But, other than that, that’s the furthest I’ve gone. Things in terms of surgery and over dieting and the like, they have never been something I chose to dabble in. I’m more of a take me as I am or don’t take me at all, kind of woman.
17. Have you ever felt as if your looks have defined you?
I won’t lie, there have been plenty of moments like that. I feel as though people, or rather, majority of the time, men, focus on my looks rather than talent. I can’t begin to tell you how many times I have had interviews or meetings with other males and the focus is on my appearance rather than anything else. It used to be extremely discouraging, especially between when I was about 18 to even 21, which happened to be some of the most critical parts of my career so far. It was as though I was put on this pedestal to be sexy and nothing more. Though, for the past few years or so, I’ve asserted that I’m not someone that chooses to adhere to that disgusting stereotype that most associate with Asian women. The one being that we need to be quiet, submissive and innocent. And it’s become obvious that some men (Asian or otherwise) are not fond of that, almost as though they’re threatened by it. So, yeah, I do feel as though for some, my looks define me to some. But, I also don’t give a rat’s ass, because if that’s what they choose to focus on, then shame on them.
18. Some female idols have been accused of “selling out” when they choose to embrace a more provocative concept whilst men are often hailed for doing the same. Do you believe this to be fair?
Of course I don’t think this is fair. Sexism is alive and well and no, I’m not about to sit around and condone that. Like I have stated before, there’s nothing more beautiful to me than seeing a woman sexually liberate herself. Whether she chooses to showcase her talents provocatively or dressed in a paper bag from head to toe, what’s the point? Though, I am not someone that is going to go all “free the titty” anytime soon (or ever), I don’t believe that women should be limited to their outward appearances. Basically, fuck that.
