Arven x Penny but!

Arven was as a kid (in some way he still is but not as bad as before) chronicly online

Because you can’t tell me that a kid without parents around wouldn’t use that to get online

Oooh, okay! So my immediate thought there is "Pre-canon shenanigans where they know each other already" things, with Penny and Arven being the only rocks they knew back then for their failing social lives. They relied on each other really heavily since neither were any good at making friends (Penny because of her shyness, Arven because everyone gave up when they couldn't meet the professor) so they really looked forward to their chats.

Now, the way I see it, there's two ways to take this: A nice, happy way where they meet each other after years of promising some way to meet IRL, where Arven is Penny's support through the bullying and ultimately her supporter through Operation Star, even going so far as to act as the one to help get her into contact with everyone . Maybe he even helps reign things in, prevents things from going as far as they did, and so all of Team Star soon come to know Cassiopeia and her right hand boyfrie- MAN. RIGHT HAND MAN. They are totally, definitely not dating!

Or, a much angstier idea: The two have a falling out pre-canon. Arven can't take Penny's complaining about her dad smothering her, because he's really "grass is greener on the other side"-ing things up and being unable to accept the idea that Penny's home life isn't as ideal as he thinks, because how could a parent caring about you possibly be a bad thing? So now Penny is stuck going to a foreign school and doesn't even get to meet the guy she thought she was friends with for years, and things play out like in canon until during The Long Way Home, where Arven inadvertently references an old inside joke they had and they realise "Oh my god I know you already."

Needless to say, Juliana/Florian and Nemona are confused as fuck when Penny and Arven go from squabbling all the time to suddenly really close! It's Nemona who asks if they're flirting, which promptly has the two deep in denial, but like... Arven is quickly becoming as possessive over Penny as he is with Juliana/Florian, but in a way the protagonist can easily tell is different.

Either way, these two are not subtle or fooling anyone.
