How do you draw a character the way you imagined it in your mind? Mine never seem to turn out the way I wanted them, and also how do you keep them consistently looking the same way, even in different positions? I mean, how do you make them recognisably the same character? One last thing - how do you adapt a photography into a sketch but still letting it be recognisable as that person (even with the sketch-like cartoon style?). Thank you so much, I love you art!
Sorry for the late reply!
Ok, the first thing you have to do is practice. I know it might seem obvious, but the more you draw more your brain memorize how art works and the movements so with time it’ll be easier to be able to get on paper what you have on your mind, I used to have the same problem and sometimes i still do!
Second thing you should study anantomy. It’s boring sometimes, but when you understand how the body works it’s all easier!
About characters always looking the same: You have to try and find the main features of the person/character you want to draw (I gave some tips for that in this video), for example how big the eyes are? What is the shape of the head? Where is the nose positioned? What shape does it have?
With practice you’ll understand how to make a character unique and how to redraw it more than once.
Also I made this tutorial on how to draw Zayn, it might help you to understand how I find the main features on a picture to draw it as a cartoon (:
