fuck am I gonna create like a 4th au here for a new magic system...? Well, we'll cross that bridge when we get to it i guess. So concept: slime girl who wants to be a mage very badly, but slimes lack the magic circuits required to cast spells. There's one type of magic that doesn't require circuits though, which uses spell circles. Spell circles are powerful, but take a long time to cast because you have to, yknow, draw out a spell circle with magic inks. So the way she manages it is by supplementing her body with paint, and then spreading it through her to create a spell circle within her own body. She makes the paints herself from ground up magic crystals, plants, and monster materials, which means she needs to be working pretty hard to keep her momentum. She can't just use inks like everyone else bc ink is too thin and it would diffuse through her body, but paint can hold its shape better. Better ingredients let her cast better spells, and the size of the circle influences the power of the spell so she sometimes has to distort her body to increase spell power. By combining colours skillfully, she can spread them across her body to mimic a human appearance (though the disguise falls apart if you look too closely), but when it's safe to do so she prefers to have a natural clear slime look with just big gobs of colourful paint floating around inside. That's all for today I need to get to bed. Good night!
shes all grown up! and very colourful<3 she has paints here for all 6 elements, but its possible there are some special spells she doesn't have the right colours for yet....
God i just completely lack the ability to transfer visual concepts in my head onto paper. This is because I lack the ability to visualize visual concepts in any meaningfully coherent way, so ideas that feel like they should look a certain way do not end up looking anything like that when they are constructed. So coming up with construction rules for these spell circles is a much less simple process than it would seem at first.
which girlies would be easiest for me to convince to do origami with me, and do you think any of them would potentially stick with it?
lets actually go through them all for funsies!
HIKARI - you could actually convince hikari to do basically anything if you framed it as needing help or assistance, but she probably wouldn't stick with it without continued requests. 2/10 difficulty.
AOI - aoi actually knows a few traditional designs, so she'd be easy to convince, especially if youve got nice paper. i dont think she would make a hobby out of it, though. 1/10 difficulty.
LIA - really it depends on what stage of her life you meet her. she's often busy and won't really give you the time of day in that case, but if she's not doing anything she'd love to learn something new. keeping with it depends on your ability to convince her that fucked up squares are a form of magic notation. 6/10 difficulty.
NEST - if you make her fall in love with you, she'll do anything. how convincingly do you need a strong and handsome girlknight in your life? she'll stick with it as long as shes in love with you. 6/10 difficulty.
VIOLET - violet gets weirdly neurotic about it. she loves the concept and you can convince her in a heartbeat to try it, but there are some folds (squash, probably, among others) that she will just categorically refuse to use. she'll definitely keep doing it as a hobby though! 1/10 difficulty.
VALYRIE - largely uninterested. if you catch her in a very specific mood, she'll indulge you, but god you'll have a hell of a time catching her. 8/10 difficulty.
DR. MARION - hmm... how would ann feel about origami..... i think you could convince her to give it a shot, but she probably won't keep with it. 4/10 difficulty.
CASSIDY - eh. gives her somethin to do i guess? the hardest part of this is getting her out of her own head long enough to think about it. she'd probably keep the designs in her head but not really stick with it in a meaningful sense bc its hard to come by square paper in the woods. 7/10 difficulty.
ADELA - i know this is the one you've been waiting for. unfortunately youre not convincing her to do any origami at all. theres no way. *maybe* if you met her when she was still alive and sane. but thats ancient history. shes too far gone. 10/10 difficulty.
ELYRIA - i think she'd love it if you show her the right designs. something cutesy or romantic. her whole vibe is like a playful cute veneer over a darkly ominous and corrupt heart. so yaknow, if you teach her to make something cute that she can use as like, an assassination calling card, or some shit, she'd be way into it. of course, getting her to like. spend enough time sitting still with you to learn is the real hard part. 5/10 difficulty.
ETOILE - a doll will play with you, sure, but it won't play on its own. 1/10 difficulty.
CAROLINE - of *course* she'll learn one or two simple things. but no more, and she definitely won't keep it up. it'll be a neat little trick she occasionally does with napkins at the bar to make her friends think she's cute and interesting. 2/10 difficulty.
ROBIN - eh i mean she'd give it a shot, she'd probably be into you. but its 100% ulterior motives, she doesn't keep with it on her own. 3/10 difficulty.
ANGEL - ahahahahaha girl get out of there....... she's watching your fingers *so* closely... 9/10 difficulty.
MEL - mel is uh. gonna have some mechanical difficulties here. 10/10 difficulty.
PEACH - you can absolutely get her to try it. she may or may not do it occasionally to pass the time. 2/10 difficulty.
ELTAH - she can't see the paper. 10/10 difficulty.
VASCH - oh shes *so* into it. she thinks thats the coolest shit. but then she only uses her skills to make increasingly fucked up paper airplanes and throw them at her sisters. 1/10 difficulty.
LEFAH - she'll probably try it? but she won't stick with it. 4/10 difficulty.
REESE - she's got better things to do honestly. 8/10 difficulty unless you can convince her there's money to be made.
VANA - she has to be better at it than you. but she won't continue it. 1/10 difficulty.
IRA - you should probably just back away slowly. 9/10 difficulty.
ERIN - she doesn't have the attention span for such delicate work. plus her fingers are probably wet. 7/10 difficulty.
ALETHA - if you make yourself annoying enough she might do one to get you to go away. but you KNOW she won't do it on her own. 8/10 difficulty.
ORCHID - easily. the hard part is getting her to let you leave afterwards. she won't do it ever again if you leave her though. 2/10 difficulty.
ZALEA - eh maybe. probably won't keep at it tho. 4/10 difficulty.
ARYL - fingers too wet :( bc theyre slime :( its sad bc she'd like to give it a try, she really would. but alas. 10/10 difficulty bc she Cant.
hard to see at 540px wide but whatever. you can zoom in or read the alt text. Timeline of Bespoke Fantasy World. it turns out both sets of sisters are doing their adventures at the same time lol
Aryl needs another friend but I don't know what kind of friend. I'm tempted to make her a succubus of some kind just because i—
Have you ever noticed that even for characters that I don't have plans to write a published work about, I treat them like they're going to be scrutinised by the masses? How Im constantly thinking about how their conceptual narrative will be misinterpreted and how to circumvent that? Why do I run everything through this bullshit machine. Is it that important that my asexual character be involved with an explicitly sexual character to avoid the accusations of sex negativity and puritanism? Or is this just some manner of moral ocd or some shit. Well, not that i can really stop doing it i guess. And I haven't created anything I don't like because of it so it's probably fine. Anyway thoughts on 2nd friend will run in the background until something coalesces I suppose.
