How many books did you read this year?

30!!!! I'm so proud of myself!!! I counted part 1 of "Got Dropped into a Ghost Story, Still Gotta Work" as its own novel because it was VERY long and part 2 is still ongoing but I think I deserve to count it as a book I read this year, haha! I'm hoping to make it 32 by the end of the year, depending on how fast I finish "Issola" 🤞

17. Did any books surprise you with how good they were?

"Got Dropped into a Ghost Story, Still Gotta Work" by Baek Deoksoo is yet another webnovel I picked up despite knowing NOTHING about beyond the title, which I should really should know by now is the recipe for me to find one of the best books I've ever read. I mean-- holy shit?! I read through every single available chapter in about ten days and absolutely could not have been prepared for any of it. The horror was STELLAR (gsgw was inspired by the SCP Archives, which I'm already a fan of!), and the twist at the end of part 1 was so mindblowingly good and painful that I had to take a day-long break to process. (One month later, I am still not over it.) The way it steadily ramps the tension through every single arc reminds me a lot of Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint (aka my favorite book in the whole world), and its cast of characters is endlessly charming to chew on (shoutout to all its women, especially!)

Kami!! he's one I never really got to use but i still loooove him 🥺 he was originally for like.. a spirited away universe thing with a few of my friends but we never actually got to RP lol. but hes a paper demon! he works in the bathhouse but he is very much Made Of Paper so any water hitting him gets him really fucked up and in danger of tearing and getting hurt. He can animate origami as well and although he's a bit gruff and brusque towards most people he dearly cares for his little animate origami friends 😌💕

so besides worm/parahumans (because i'll get to them one day i promise 🥺) what novels (or visual novels. or games idc) would you recommend to people? me? any media you enjoy in particular right now?

media i'm enjoying rn is mostly video games while i smooth out my brain w background videos or podcasts but some books i can recommend (that i don't know that you've watched/read/played, ik you know fate and stuff):

pact by the guy who did worm is one of my favorite stories ever both by the merits of the narrative alone but also bc of its setting and worldbuilding. the way it interfaces with folklore mythology religion irl occultism and The Nature Of Narrative while having its own interesting spin on classic fantasy creatures and concepts makes my brain fire on all cylinders all the time constantly. its Really Intense as far as pacing and emotional exhaustion goes but i think it's worth it

if you're looking for Fantasy fantasy tolkien is a classic example of when critically and popularly acclaimed media turns out to in fact be that good. the silmarillion is quite dry but fucking insane and extremely memorable and i'm very fond of the hobbit and ofc lotr itself

i have a soft spot for gothic novels like the strange case of dr jekyll and mr hyde or the picture of dorian gray (though obviously they're quite far apart in tone)

i love latamerican magical realism tho i'm not sure what has and hasn't been translated, or Competently translated, to english. cortazar garcia marquez and borges are all really good. i'm really fond of cortazar's bestiario and specifically Circe

for weeb shit some of the monogatari light novels are genuinely quite good

idk which will and won't be to your taste so apologies for any disappointments! this is just stuff i can personally vouch for Me Liking

for video games or movies i'd need to know more about what you like and what you're looking for

lol CSP U_U i bought it but it was behaving strangely when i tried to use it so? i keep avoiding tyring to learn how to use it lol👍

oooohh fav character rn id say metatron for sure <33 he comes to me as easily as breathing... on the other hand YJH is alwyas soooo difficult to get right i feel like i struggle with him CONSTANTLY dbhvjd

27. Do you warm up before getting to the good stuff? If so, what is it you draw to warm up with

yknow if never been a person to really do warm up drawings andik iiiinda got into it for a short while but it just. doesnt come naturally to me lol so no i never really do warm ups lol WHICH YKNOW. i guess works for me now bc now ill be in so much pain by the time i finish sketching i have to break for the night so. doing a warmup may just hinder me 👍

4. Fav character/subject that's a bitch to draw

[deep sign] SUNG HYUNJAEEEEEEEE drives me crazy i can never draw him in a way im satisfied with. i jsut cant get!!!! the feel of drawing slicked back hair right it always looks and feels wonky i think i may have to give up and borrow from the webtoon design more and give him fringe which INFURIATES MEEEE PUSH THAT OLD MANS HAIR BACK GODDAMMITT 😭😭😭

7. A medium of art you don't work in but appreciate

textiles sewing and embroidery especially are sooooo coollll but i havent been able to jump into them at all. i SHOULD try out embroidery i think i could do that but sewing is beyond me. cool as hell tho
