I don't think so, but did we have access to the Ascendant Plane before. well, everything (on screen wise)?

We did with Crota! Crota's throne world is located in the ascendant plane. But that was only the access to his throne world specifically, not the ascendant plane proper. Still, that was our first interaction with it.

I don't think the First Crota Fireteam managed to physically enter the ascendant realm portion of Crota's throne world before dying (and escaping in Eris' case), but they knew about it from Toland.
