Working on that lunar new year drawing reminded me I need to get back on drawing Tanith more. She is probably the most self indulgent OC I've ever made and I love her so muchhhhh

Darkwood AU Cernun when?
<:))) So the insane thing is this might as well not be an AU, this is a thing Cernun actually does in Ascension Fall. After his "death" strange forests pop up all over the world and they are uncannily similar to Darkwood(communication's cut off, people who enter to investigate never return, even [redacted]) . While I haven't talked about it openly, if you've been following me for a long time there have been signs.
(I tried to make it much subtler in the newer drawing but I think I course corrected a little too hard into making the people unrecognizable)
Posting some of the asks & responses from twitter here too 'cause why not
1, 19, and 25 👀
1.) how would you describe the world your story takes place in?
Snake Garden's world is vaguely 1800-1900s inspired(due to how differently technology has advanced in it there's not a good real world exact parallel). It's got that fantasy setting staple ✨feudalism✨ and the pretty extreme divide between social classes that comes with it. The "magic" in the world has has also been divided this way.
Ascension Fall takes place in a completely shattered and decaying world with barely any life left in it. What sentient life remains has retreated to small pockets of hospitable land(corpses of previous gods) and are largely disconnected from one another. Both have bad vibes and no one is having a good time lmao
19.) describe the sillies you think about but that dont go in the story.
SG: The explanation behind the magic and some of the world's oddities! Snake Garden's "magic" plays more like a supernatural force than a rigid magic system where you can learn spells or get better at casting. The whys and hows of it aren't important to the story so a mystery to the characters and audience it remains! If we're talking about actual scenes though uh, there's quite a few between Alister and Olivine I've had to cut to keep the story on track OTL AF: There's not really a solid enough story line for me to know what things I should and should not include in it atm! So really any silly has a possibility of showing up in story.
25.) best scene you havent yet written, but have an idea for?
SG: I'm not sure if it's the best scene, but the one constantly rotating in my brain that I can at least vague about is Leto losing their eye. It's a fun time for both parties involved :}} (I do wanna keep the details under wraps for now though!) AF: There's a lot less hard set scenes planned for this one but [redacted]'s revival is one I have a lot visually planned for ehe.
TY for the three whole asks!!!!
3 and 14!!
3.) any recurring images/elements?
Eyes, snakes, and wings are shared imagery in both! They'll pop up in all sorts of architecture and cultures for both stories. Fire as a means of rebirth is common too now that I think about it? Got two very fire centric characters. Both worlds also share unexplained forces and mythology that has been warped over time and changed depending on who tells it, though Ascension Fall gets to focus on those elements more than Snake Garden.
14.) whats your favorite part of this story/project?
For Ascension Fall I LOVE world building for it! Snake Garden is relatively set in stone for its world building and things I do tweak still try to stay within a loose rule set as to not totally up-heave what story I have outlined. But Ascension Fall is like my playground where I get to throw around ideas that don't fit or I won't get to expand upon as much in SG! It panders more to my recent interests than SG gets to. My favorite part of Snake Garden is the characters. I like making them interact and see how I can get their arcs to intertwine in meaningful ways!
Ty for the ask! :}}

8.) what inspired your world building, if anything?
Snake Garden's world had a couple iterations before it landed where it is now so the most relevant one is probably Dishonored and a little bit of a manga I like to pretend I wasn't into called Pandora Hearts. The frame work for SG's "magic" was definitely a subconscious blend of the two(Even carrying over the name "The Void" from Dishonored, though the aesthetic is very different). Outside the "magic system," the rest of the world pulls from misc history subjects I like.
The primary inspiration for Ascension Fall's world building is a bit harder to place because it's just generally pulled from my love for mythology and cosmic horror(these have also leaked into SG if I'm honest, just not as in your face). There's not really a single piece of media it's initial ideas pulled from like with Snake Garden. If the story has beings beyond mortal comprehension screwing everyone over(often by happenstance rather than any malicious intent) I've probably at least osmosis-ed tiny bits of it into either world. Thank you for the ask! I tried to keep this concise but it still ended up longer than intended ahah...
Whoopsie, almost forgot to put the compiled version of my huevembers over here! I’m weirdly happy with a lot of these.Feels nice to have consistently drawn things all month and focus on just OC work.
