Summary: Dean's roommate is not what anyone would call ordinary. Cas is asexual, and mildly autistic, and he frustrates other people with his unrelentingly 'childish' ways – but it's different with Dean: they have an exceptional bond, something truly profound. Dean figures Cas wouldn't respond to the idea of a crush the way most people would, so he has no intention of telling him he's been harbouring non-platonic feelings for him for years. Then one night everything falls to pieces: Cas overhears something he wasn't meant to hear. Things were never normal between the two of them, but now they might never be comfortable again.
Comments: This was a really sweet, positive fic about having a relationship with someone who has ASD and is asexual. I think what really carries this fic is just how much Dean loves Cas - he's not just willing to go that extra mile, he's willing to go that extra five hundred miles. Oh man, just thinking about a bowl of moldy tangerines swarming with fruit flies makes my want to hack up a lung. I'm not ASD, nor am I friends with anyone who is, so I can't really speak to the accuracy of the portrayal, but based on the comments, it seems pretty on-point. The only thing I kind of have issue with, though I don't even know if I have the right to have an issue with this, is that Cas ends up being magical, which is kind of just... "Oh he's got all these issues, but it's ok! He's magic." BUT maybe he's isn't actually magic and it's all metaphoric and I'm reading it wrong :X
