Esse livro te leva por todos os aspectos da prostituição desde os homens conservadores criando leis até revistas feministas da época (1890-1930) e como isso moldou a cidade de São Paulo atual. Foi uma das leituras mais dificeis da minha vida, mas me ajudou a começar a entender esse assunto tão complexo e intricado e como ele é relacionado com a misoginia de hoje.
The second episode of the podcast Desqualificadas is about prostitution and while hearing their conversation I kept coming back to a book that I've read last year, Os prazeres da noite by Margareth Rago.
This book takes you through all the aspects of prostitution since the conservative man making laws to feminist magazines of the time (1890-1930) and how it shaped the city of São Paulo to its present form.
It was one of the hardest reads of my life, but it helped me to start to understand such a complex and intricated issue and how it all relates to the misogyny in place today.
